About me

Hi, I'm Margaret, a professional Executive Coach, Counsellor and Supervisor.

My approach to coaching is to build a strong working relationship so I can listen carefully to your needs and then work alongside you to facilitate you achieving the outcomes which are right for you. As part of this process, we can explore the factors that might hold you back like confidence, anxiety and low self-esteem. As a qualified Psychotherapist, I can work at a deeper, more psychological level than many coaches and help deepen your self-awareness.

There are many periods in our lives when we can feel overwhelmed or concerned about the future and coaching can be extremely useful at these times. Equally, in a world that is changing fast, it is common to find change unsettling. If you are affected by, say, redundancy; thinking of making a job move; returning to work; or preparing for retirement; then I provide a 'thinking space' for you to examine your feelings and make plans for the future which are right for you. I look at how you can raise your commitment and motivation levels to maximise your success.

I work with lots of different types for people from the most senior to those starting out in their working lives. With all of my clients, I bring a strong coaching skill-set that has been honed over the past 20 years. Although I work with the 'inner world', I am rooted in the external world.  My continuing professional development is an important part of my professionalism and I am interested in understanding the developments within coaching, psychotherapy and the wider world to inform my work.

Other areas of coaching I deal with

Specialist area:

I have coached many women over the years who do not have good self-esteem or who doubt their abilities, with excellent results. I am interested in the 'Imposter Syndrome' and how this manifests, in particular in high-achieving women, and how best to challenge thoughts which are self-limiting.

Further information

Working in nature

For those clients who can travel to my business address near Kimbolton (Cambs), I work in a garden room. It is a beautiful, calm and private space surrounded by a naturalistic garden with perennials, grasses & mature trees. The inside & outside space is designed to provide a refuge from the world for a short period of time.  Clients love this space and regularly comment on the soothing effects it creates.

Being in the garden adds to the therapeutic experience of good coaching as each time you arrive you will see changes. These external changes remind you that life changes all the time, often in subtle ways.

Some pictures of the garden and room are shown with my profile. Both interior and exterior spaces have been carefully considered to provide a retreat where you can pause, feel secure, and able to reconnect and explore your inner world.

Small groups (up to 6 people) also use this space for personal & professional development work.'

Over the years I have received excellent feedback in my coaching/counselling work:

'I began my coaching journey with Margaret Walsh when I was at a very low ebb. I had just failed a promotion process and found myself personally and professionally at a crossroads and my confidence had taken a huge knock.

Margaret was able to help me articulate what I wanted for my future self, and we set out the steps I needed to take to achieve success. We talked about the promotion process and the skills and experience I had that weren’t necessarily obvious or transferable. Margaret helped me re-frame this and build my confidence back to the point where I stopped focussing on letting myself be defined by failure and started to plan my career for the future.

Margaret helped me to value and re-appraise myself and consider possible future career options. Margaret coached me to understand how my own view of myself and my preconceptions about how others might view me were holding me back and we worked on a plan for success. Margaret has a wonderful warm approach to coaching and is a wise and supportive coach. Since starting with Margaret I have gone on to lead a national strand of work, received a Queen's Policing Medal and also achieved success in a recent promotion process. All testament to Margaret’s inclusive and developmental coaching style. I would thoroughly recommend Margaret as a coach.'

'Margaret is very understanding and obviously has a great deal of knowledge in her field.  She listens and also asks pertinent questions that seem to take me to areas that I need to go, and perhaps wouldn't without this guidance.'

'Margaret was fantastic and patient and listened very carefully to the issues I raised. She got to the core of my issues through her perceptive questioning. '

'I was really impressed by Margaret's warm and engaging style and felt comfortable from the very start of working with her.  I felt I flourished and grew through your coaching expertise and care.'

'Amazing, Margaret is brilliant and knows exactly how to get to the core issue and unpack it.'

'It was so great to talk to Margaret, she asked the right questions, and gave a neutral perspective on things.'

'Margaret was easy to speak to, explained well how the session works, and followed up with useful insights and food for thought.'
