Life coaching can enable you to move forward in a more productive way, with more clarity and more understanding about who you are and what you want in life.
It can help you to deal with issues in your life, relationship and career.
Are you in a place in your life, relationship or career where you are stuck?
Do you want to be able to move forward?
Coaching is about achieving results. It can help to enhance your career goals, to develop as a person, or to be able to move forward and achieve your potential. It will support you to make the changes that will enable you to be the person you want to be, have a healthier relationship, achieve that new job, to move forward in your career or to create the life you have always aspired to have.
Being a coach has changed me as a person. I too have had to look at myself and my behaviour. Through understanding myself better, I can be more effective as a coach. I work with clients in an open, compassionate way, I try to be authentic and remain non-judgemental at all times. I follow the BACP's and EMCC's ethical framework and aspire to candour, care, courage, diligence, empathy, fairness, humility, integrity, resilience respect sincerity and wisdom.
All these qualities are helpful in coaching, but I also believe the relationship between coach and client is key to everything. The quality of the relationship with my client is fundamental to the working relationship and the biggest indicator that I am working effectively. As a coach, I tailor my speed and approach according to my clients at the level that is most helpful for them. I ask for feedback from them regularly in order to gage what is right to them.
What can I expect from life coaching?
An effective coach facilitates effective behavioural change.
Coming from a counselling background, I am able to work with clients from many different levels and with many different approaches. One very important factor is building good rapport and trust.
What would life coaching give you?
Life coaching is a way of working that uses a collaborative solution-focused, holistic approach. The aim is to facilitate and enhance life experience, personal growth and self directed learning.
Coaching will give you a clearer picture of yourself, improve confidence and self belief. Understanding your situation and yourself more clearly and equipping yourself with better tools more effective tools you will be able to create better opportunities. This will help you move forward in a positive, more satisfying way. I use is a non-judgemental, non-directive approach. You, the client are the author of your life. Coaching will give you the confidence to deal with life in a more proactive, effective way.
Training, qualifications & experience
Why am I a counsellor and coach?
A friend of mine once said that I am "a natural." I assumed what he meant was that I am good with people and I agree with him that I am, but counselling or coaching requires more that just being good with people. It also requires training and my training started about 20 years ago.
What is my training?
My training started with Psychotherapy. Psychotherapy can be described as a way of working that uses psychological principles for the purpose of assisting people to modify their behaviours, cognitions, emotions to enable them to achieve their desired outcome.
My training then evolved into adding a Systemic approach. Humans do not live in isolation, we live as part of a system. Our families are a system and that system influences our behaviour, cognition and emotion. We come into this world with our personalists, but our environment has an impact on this. Our environment can either nurture or hinder our growth, can influence how we think and how we behave with ourselves and with others and how we form relationships. A great deal of my work has been with relationships, whether it be with couples or families.
Through my work I became involved in a project that involved working short term with women who were in abusive relationships. Prior to this project a great deal of my work had been long term. Being involved in this I discovered that by using more of a coaching skills I could work more affectively.
This then led me to training as a Coach. Adding coaching to my capabilities has meant I work more creatively to enabling change. I work in a collaborative solution-focused, results-orientated way. My approach can be more direct at times, or it cannot depending on what is required. As a coach I work to facilitate change and growth. Coaching has given me are more tools, more skills and more ways to assist people to achieve what they are wanting.
I have also trained as an NLP practitioner. Using NLP tools and techniques with my clients has enabled me to facilitate change more affectively.
So going back to what my friend said, yes I am "a natural" who also now has a great deal of knowledge, skills and expertise to enable people to create a better future for themselves.
