About me

🤔 About YOU first - so what’s on your mind?

  • Right now you are probably wondering about your future and what it holds. It’s hard to make sense of it all and you may feel stuck and frustrated, or at least unsure what to do next. You are not alone.
  • In part, it could well be caused by a lack of self confidence and self esteem, as well as imposter syndrome; these are common issues I find at all ages of life, even my most “senior” clients. Or simply that you don’t have clarity on what it is you want to do next; follow the crowd or take an alternative path?
  • The world is not an easy place for you to navigate, nor is it easy to secure a first job or new job that fits your values and in which you will feel fulfilled, let alone excel in your current role. Like someone leaving the Services or been in a role for a while, wanting change, but not sure how to go about it.
  • With so many more challenges facing you in the world, let alone the hard graft you put in to achieve and get the necessary qualifications and skills, it’s frustrating.
  • Plus the constant bombardment of social media and world news creating further uncertainty, anxiety and stress.
  • In addition, expectations of the young especially, are higher and demand more for you to succeed and deliver; to be the best. And still to be true to you.
  • It’s also more complex if you are neurodiverse, such as with ADHD, in which I further specialise.
  • Plus, your expectations of a work/life balance and priorities can be very different from the last generation.

So, you need someone who is not a family member to talk to, who is non-judgemental, independent, fair and, importantly honest.

🤔 How would we work together?

Having coached and mentored a broad mix of clients from executives to graduates including “career starters” over many years, I’m fully committed and amply qualified to guide and help you by:

🔵 Stepping through my tried and tested approach and building rapport quickly, this will allow you to know get to know yourself much better; then start to build a foundation of new confidence and refreshed perceptions and ideas. This will be followed by focusing on what you really want and then to move your way towards it, with my close, non-judgemental support; achieving clarity amongst the confusion. It’s a true, collaborative partnership, built on mutual trust, honesty and transparency. I will challenge on occasions as this will really make you think hard;  often the best results and realisations come from this

🔵 Growing and developing you personally too (tackling and overcoming issues such as lack of confidence, anxiety to imposter syndrome – this can occur at any age and seniority). I’ll try to tap into your true and, perhaps, hidden potential you didn’t even know you had and open your mind to new perspectives and ideas. It can be refreshing and motivating.

🔵 Growing you professionally in your career (to get promoted, be more productive, or to find a new job which resonates with your core values, has a sense of fulfilment and clearer purpose). Change is always possible with the right mindset and self-belief, but sometimes help is needed to make that leap and career coaching can be a real catalyst for that change.

🔵 Addressing the issues that are holding you back from making a change. It happens to the best of us, but take some courage and it’s possible.
Plus mentoring you in the longer term, if you require it. Sometimes longer term “structure” and support is needed.

🧭 A little about me….

Born into a large family in Devon; the expanse of Dartmoor was my playground as I grew up. This made me appreciate nature, space and challenge, as well as the curiosity to explore, understand.

During that time I worked with younger people, using my empathy to support them – this theme then continued strongly in my first career with the young men and women I worked with in the military; getting that adventure and travel, but also providing pastoral care and considered direction and guidance, always putting my team first.

It was the same when I entered my second career in corporate world, as I mentored and coached many of my work colleagues as a business leader within that multinational business for 15 years. Always looking to grow people personally and professionally where I could; being supportive and encouraging of true potential.

Looking back, it was also partly witnessing people in authority taking unfair advantage of, or wrongly judging others that galvanised my desire to help others. Because those behaviours created real distrust and anxiety, holding those affected back from achieving of their best.

I’ve had a fascinating life and the the privilege of working with a very diverse mix of people, ages and in varied businesses types, with lots of change and challenges along the way: seldom a dull moment! In those roles I was widely recognised as a strong motivator, empathetic leader, honest and engaging; this has been at the heart of everything I’ve done. People were drawn to it because they trusted me to do my very best by them, which in turn delivered excellent results. And we had quite a few laughs on the way too; humour is an essential ingredient.

So, finally, over six years ago, I decided to plan my third career; to become an executive and life coach, as well as continuing to mentor others, including career starters in schools and universities. As a result, I am now professional coach of the European Mentoring and Coaching Council (EMCC) with global accreditation - and fulfilling my true passion.

Training, qualifications & experience

💙 Experience & Values:

I have been in coaching for over 6 years now and have been a mentor for a great deal longer.

Having served over two decades in the military and a further fifteen years in a complex multinational business in varied senior roles, where I was fully responsible and accountable for many other people, I decided to become a self employed executive coach and mentor; to put to use all that extensive “people and life experience” to help others, especially those starting out in life, to navigate it far more effectively or to make people more successful and effective in their current role. But, also more senior people seeking help and a new way forward

I have led a varied and interesting life, visited many parts of the world, met some pretty amazing people (and some not so amazing too!), collaborated with and led very large teams, been in a variety of businesses, whilst also navigating through some dangerous and difficult times, including where my trust was severely tested and my faith in human nature questioned.

However, throughout that journey, my core values of empathy, justice, honesty, positivity, trust, creativity and empowering others have kept me strong, focussed on doing the right thing, but most importantly supporting and working with people to achieve success in their lives.
