Why making time to think matters for personal development

When it comes to personal development, growing ourselves at a personal level, one important ingredient is time.

Yet, realistically, time is something we often feel we don’t have enough of, and this is more than just a feeling for many people. As a result, one of the main areas we neglect is time for ourselves: to rest, relax, and simply think.

For the majority of us, there are many daily routine activities and tasks we are committed to doing. This includes those of us who go to work, have a family and a household to run, organise and take care of, and/or anyone in full-time education.

More often than not, days, weeks and months go by, and we continue doing those things we are required and committed to do every day to keep everything ticking along and, hopefully, running smoothly.

Without a doubt, time to think is important, giving us space to plan and work out what we want to be doing, striving towards and achieving in the near and more distant future, in multiple aspects of our lives, both personally and/or professionally.

Making time to think can help us step outside our everyday routines and consider what we want to work towards.

Remember, time to think is important, and you can make the choice to make it an integral part of your life, giving you more opportunity to consider what would make your life feel interesting and fulfilling to you. Can you afford not to make that time to think available for yourself?

You don’t necessarily need hours. It might be 15 minutes without distractions, a walk, time with a notebook or a regular point in the week when you ask yourself: What is working? What isn’t? And what do I want to focus on next?

Life coaching sessions can provide dedicated space to think and reflect, particularly if you find it difficult to make that time for yourself. They can give you time to work on your own personal development and to focus on yourself in a constructive, practical and useful way.
