Motivation: Our inner drive to get things done

We know we need to have it. We know it’s not good not to have it. How easy is it to define and get it?

For me, it’s our inner drive to get things done. It’s about focus and determination. It’s about knowing what needs to be done and then doing it. It requires determination and energy, time and resources, self-belief and self-worth.

Have we got these?
Yes, often! It’s just perhaps that we don’t direct them where we really want them to be; towards the areas of our lives that we really want or desire to change. We make excuses, convince ourselves we can’t.

Is it perhaps though that we don’t really want the things enough that we think we want?

As we know, we make time for the things we like to do.

I was interviewed a while back by Siobhan, a City of Glasgow College media student about Motivation.

“What motivates you?” she asked. Great question! For me, it’s people, music, laughter and fun, challenge and outcomes, goals and hard work, family and friends, love and life, relaxation and holidays, clients, dancing, being physically and emotionally well, creativity and success, sunshine and the outdoors, opportunities and possibilities.

What about you? What gets you going? What motivates us creates the foundation for next steps.

Consider what you desire. Ask why you want it. Review its importance. What would gaining this bring to you? To those around you? List what you want, think about it, dream about it, live it and do what it takes to get it. You must want them. If you really do, you can find the drive, the energy, the desire, the outcome, the action and the will.

You can do it. I believe in you. You must also believe in you.

Does that seem too easy? It is. Make it so. Let’s stop excuses and ourselves getting in the way of what we want and deserve.

Work through your fears, your stress, panic, anxiety and worry. Overcome your lack of confidence and staying in the confines of your comfort zone. Work with a Coach if you need some help.

Motivation... an exciting journey lies ahead.
