Placing too much relevance on what is "irrelevant" in your life?
Are you placing too much relevance on what is “irrelevant” in your life?
It's human nature to react to certain things but how we react will differ from one person to another. Many of us will be a lot more negative than others so it’s a great skill to be able to think about the outcome of something logically.
As humans more than 80% of what we tell ourselves veers on the negative side, so why do we do this? Good question! - It's only when we train our minds to change that negative into a positive we can start seeing more clearly and the irrational thoughts become rational.
Why do we concern ourselves with things that we have no control over? Why do we even take the time to process and analyse them? How does something we have no control over serve us and our emotional state?
For example, most of us will be fed up about the huge increase in the cost of fuel, but worrying about it will not decrease the prices because there is actually nothing we can do about it.
The media thrives more on bad news than on good. So, don't read it, why would you want to consume yourself with the negativity that the media has put out there? It will most definitely have an impact on your day. And what could have started off as an otherwise good day can quickly turn into a bad day purely because you have chosen to read some press, you have the choice not to, so don't. Why waste your energy? The media is doing its best to influence you when you should use what you do have control over to influence you and your own life.
We have no control over the weather, whether it rains or shines, taxes, whether they increase or decrease, earthquakes – a force of nature. You see, as humans, we exhaust far too much time concerning ourselves with the negatives when the time could have been taken up with something positive.
What actions you take, what thoughts you have, what your emotional state is, and what your wants and needs are should be far more important and present to you because you do have control over these.
Many problems, if you make them problems, are not solved with more thinking, they are solved by taking the correct action. Thinking doesn’t solve issues, thinking can be dangerous especially when you let your mind run away with you. You can turn something simple into something huge.
Overthinking is so powerful, you can't touch it, see it, feel it or interact with it. Your mind is the most intelligent and powerful tool you have but can also have the most debilitating effect on your being if you do not control it.
So what do you do? You take action, the action to control what you do have power over. Working on yourself will help you learn how to manage your thoughts, how to process them, how to not sabotage yourself and how to reach a happy and balanced place within that serves you well.
Let's take self-rejection who is telling you – “you won't be any good at that” “you can't do that” “I know Im never going to amount to anything” – who is actually telling you that? That little voice in your mind? The inner conflict you have with yourself. Yes, because if you concentrate on all the things you can do, the things you can't do will become irrelevant.
Take steps to turn those can'ts into cans and watch how your subconscious becomes aware of the changes. Write daily affirmations, manifest, make a vision board and know that we are all capable of many things and anything is possible if you control your mind and don't let it control you.
Stop giving your attention and energy to the irrelevant things in life and embrace the relevant.
Change can be slow. Don’t put too much pressure on yourself, but do know that whatever steps you take to make positive change are steps in the right direction. The road may be long, but with each step, you are getting closer to your goal.
You are the biggest love you have, don’t waste any more time on the things you have no control over, the things that do not enrich your life and do not add any value to your life.
Value everything that is relevant and serves you well. Work on those positives, those core values and ensure those values align with who you are and how you are going to get the best of yourself.
Change your mindset, change your life!
