My ADHD journey

As someone living with ADHD, I have been able to harness the strength that it has bestowed upon me. ADHD is a complex condition that affects us all differently.

Whilst it can be challenging for some it can also bring certain strengths and in some cases, superpowers such as high energy and drive. People with ADHD often have abundant energy levels, which can fuel their motivation and drive. When channelled effectively, this energy can result in remarkable accomplishments and the ability to tackle multiple tasks simultaneously.

The downside of ADHD

While ADHD can bring certain strengths, it is important to acknowledge that there are also challenges and downsides associated with the condition. Here are some common difficulties that individuals with ADHD may experience:

  • Inattentive and easily distracted.
  • Impulsivity - when do we think before we speak? taking a step back and thinking about the answer to a question is a real skill that needs to be practised before we splurt out something that may be received in an unpleasant way!
  • Hyperactivity - we can be on the "go" and it seems like we can never "sit still" - it's very tiring.
  • Struggles with organisation and time management.
  • Memory and forgetfulness - this can be really frustrating.
  • Emotional dysregulation.
  • Social and interpersonal challenges - for someone with ADHD there is no intention to interrupt someone midway through a conversation, we are mostly unaware we are doing this. It's only when people know our condition, they know it is not intentional.
  • So many more symptoms (many can be found in my coaching program).

The ability to do many things at one time without getting tired is pretty awesome. However, on the other hand, it can be overwhelming. It's how you “balance” it that is key to coping with it.

The hyperfocus with ADHD can become intense but whatever you do  has to be personally interesting or stimulating otherwise the job won't be “as good”. We are easily bored individuals and getting motivated for something that doesn’t drive us will not see us channelling our energy into it. However, once we are interested the results can be exceptional.

The high energy that some of us experience can offer incredible career results and we can exhibit entrepreneurial traits. The ability to think quickly and adapt to changing circumstances can be advantageous when starting and growing a business.

I set up a flower shop 22 years ago and sold it after 18 years when I increased the takings from zero to to six figures without a single day's training, now how did I do that? I thank my sidekick, ADHD.

Everyone’s experience with ADHD is unique and what works for one may not work for another. It's crucial to find coping strategies that best suit individual needs and optimise productivity, whilst seeking support and guidance.

I celebrate my accomplishments as they are a testament to my resourcefulness, determination and hard work.

Let me inspire you, support you and show you how to navigate your journey with ADHD to become the very best version of yourself with the tools to excel in life both in your career and your personal life.

My own life story has had many “ups and downs” but I fought my way through them with continued determination to succeed in all that I have done.
