How to choose a men's life coach

Why choose a men’s coach over a regular coach?

The first thing I would say is… men get men, but men’s coaches really get men!

I think we’d agree that women get women, right? When two women get together magic happens somehow and they connect, well in my experience anyway. There's a kind of electricity that happens between two women and they just get one another. Topic after topic is covered and they listen really well (most of the time) there’s a smoothness to their flow and they finish both satisfied and go their separate ways. I see you nodding, you’ve experienced it haven’t you?

So what does a man-to-man conversation look like in comparison?

In my experience witnessing two guys getting together, it’s a bit clumsy, awkward – it's not a dance like the women, more like a drunken wrestle, full of banter and “yeah I'm good mate” and lots of “not too bad dude, could be better but what can you do eh?” and us men are not very good at listening, or asking vulnerable questions. We just aren’t designed the same as women in this way. We are hardly ever taught how to do this stuff….

So how do us men get to have these conversations with other men, the conversations that encourage change and allow us the space to speak vulnerably about what's really going on for us and enable us to make positive change in our lives?

Answer: We work with a men’s coach.

Having a men’s coach can be an invaluable asset to any man looking to improve his life. A men’s coach is a professional who is specifically trained to understand the unique needs of men and the challenges they face in their day-to-day lives. How to find a great mens’ life coach

Finding the right men’s life coach is essential for your success. You should look for someone who has lots of experience in working with men and is fully certified.

It's important that you feel comfortable with your coach and that you both have a connection when you jump on your sample call. Most coaches will offer free 30-45 min sample calls to do some actual coaching with you and talk to you about how they work. You can ask them lots of questions and get a feel for their style. You’re going to be sharing some big stuff with this guy so take some time to feel into his energy and see if it feels aligned with yours.

It can be helpful to look for referrals from friends and family or to read reviews online. You can also contact local coaching organizations or look for coaches in your area. Once you have identified a few potential life coaches, it is important to meet with them on Zoom to discuss your goals and see if they are the right fit.
