About me
Most sales training teaches you to close harder. I teach the opposite.
I'm Paul Atherton, thirty-five years in sales, and here's what I know: the best closers don't close at all. They help people close themselves.
Neuroclose™: Presence Not Pressure
I’ve come to believe most lost sales are not logic problems. They’re perception problems.
Buyers are constantly revealing what they’re uncertain about, what they’re protecting, who they want to become, and what still doesn’t feel safe enough to decide.
Most salespeople miss it because they’ve been trained to listen for objections. My brand NeuroClose™ is a new pair of glasses. It helps salespeople see the hidden conversation underneath the spoken one.
The First Lens teaches them to recognise the three identities every buyer reveals:
- Who they’re showing you they are
- Who they’re protecting
- Who they want to become
From there, the work becomes simpler.
- Recognise before persuading.
- Reflect before explaining.
- Remove uncertainty before trying to close.
- Help buyers trust themselves enough to decide.
That’s where ideas like The Uncertainty Audit™, The Buyer’s High™, Sell Futures Not Features™, Take The Pulse™, Negative First Selling™, and the rest of the NeuroClose field work came from. Not from inventing another sales methodology, but from observing real buyers, real salespeople, and real decisions until the patterns became impossible to ignore.
I work with professionals from new coaches, service providers, and rookie salespeople to seasoned sales directors, MDs, and CEO's.
Mostly 1:1 by Zoom, but sometimes that means team training programmes; sometimes it means fixing one live deal, one script, one follow-up, or one missing inch in the sales process.
And for many clients, it’s simply one conversation a month. They don’t pay me for information; I give that away freely. They pay me for implementation. One focused conversation per month that changes every conversation they have afterwards.

Sample recommendation/testimonial from Ty Archer, now an established international sales coach in his 5th year, with a multiple six-figure income, over 110K followers on Instagram, and clients all over the world.
I coached Ty from being an employed sales guy to leaving that business, doing it alone, starting from scratch just like I did, and every step of the way ever since. He still has fortnightly coaching sessions with me. This is just one example for context.
Here's his LinkedIn recommendation....
Tyler Archer:
Where do I start? When I first connected with Paul about five years ago, I was still in my 9–5 sales leadership role, building my business on the side. Straight away, I could tell he wasn’t another “guru” - he brought depth, psychology, and empathy that went far beyond surface-level sales advice.
Since then, Paul has been instrumental in helping me transition into running my own successful coaching business full-time. He has not only sharpened my sales skills but also challenged the way I think, communicate, and lead. The frameworks and mindset shifts he taught me have directly shaped the business I run today.
Four years on, we’re still working together. That longevity says it all. Paul has been more than a coach; he’s been in my corner the whole way, someone I can rely on through the ups and downs of business. I call him a friend, and I don’t say that lightly.
If you’re looking for someone who brings substance, accountability, and genuine care (not just hype), Paul is the real deal.
