About me

I am a highly qualified business coach, executive coach and life coach with over 30 years experience helping clients move forward, especially in their working lives as leaders and managers, but also their personal lives because one often affects the other, solving practical or mind-set issues, and focusing on solutions.

I can draw on the rich variety of my business and personal background to help you to think through and develop your working life in many areas as the following may indicate:
Former Corporate Life - Prior to 2008 (when I set up my own business to do coaching and related services) and for more than a decade, I headed up teams of professional staff and sat on Corporate Management Team.  In the same organisation, I was leader of the volunteer staff-to-management engagement team covering 600 staff - I saw and dealt with everything, coaching, mentoring and mediating whatever key issues came along.  I did this for individuals (staff, middle and top management), whole teams and the entire organisation.
Current Coaching Life
- Since 2008, both individuals and businesses hire me for all sorts of work-related development matters and people issues.  Individual clients find that it really helps to talk about certain work issues privately to an expert and neutral person.  Businesses use me to coach managers, partners and board-level executives, ranging from small firms to household name firms.  I find that people are people, whatever situation they are in and whatever level they are at.
Private Life - I've been married for 35 years and brought up two children who have both gone through university and are in the world of work.  I have experienced some really difficult times in my life and come through the other side having learned a lot - being a man of faith has helped.  I enjoy reading and studying, and walking along the beautiful Thames Path, and have been known to coach some people in that environment!

Other areas of coaching I deal with

I'm a specialist in company optimisation, equipping leadership teams for greater success in this new era... for strategic, interpersonal and operational factors.  Often, this is associated with sharpening purpose, enhancing how key people and teams relate to others to maximise effectiveness, plus aligning systems and processes to help support all that.  I can do this through the following ways:

1. Our 4-step company optimisation process, including short training modules on what really matters.
2. Leadership team coaching and executive coaching for individual leaders/managers.
3. Business-critical project delivery and support/mentoring for senior leaders - a virtual Chief of Staff.
4. Mediation to help resolve team and family business 'issues'.
5. Preparing for your future - company sale and succession planning.

Additional information

Please email or me to arrange a FREE initial conversation to see if I might be the right coach for your particular needs and to see what sort of help might be most suitable for you.  I may not be the cheapest, but with my wealth of experience do represent great value for money.

Zoom/Teams coaching is cheaper than face-to-face coaching.  Sessions are prepaid.  For individuals, typical options are either a single 'blockbuster' session (for more 'straightforward' matters) or blocks of three sessions, which are at a discount. Six sessions would normally be the maximum needed.

When I work

Daytime and evening sessions are available.

Further information

Here are a few public testimonials from the many men and women I have coached from all sorts of different 'levels' and roles about their personal and workplace issues - these four (amongst many others) can be found on my LinkedIn profile:

"Julian brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to his coaching. He provides clients with extremely helpful perspectives and insights in order to fully help them understand their current situation and the key drivers involved. He expertly utilises a range of techniques and methodologies enabling clients to find a change of direction. On the journey I found Julian to be constructive, committed and incredibly skilled in finding a new strategy for myself - the return on invested time was hugely worthwhile and I would highly recommend his services."

"Julian has excellent skills for coaching. He listens very carefully, asks great questions, challenges in a constructive way, and helps clients work out a realistic way forwards. I found him a very genuine person, who wants to help others find win-win solutions."

"Julian has helped me on a personal coaching basis and is very patient and understanding and has had great insight into the issues involved. I would recommend him most highly."

"I used Julian as an executive coach over a period of a few months during a period of upheaval and transition, when I had to make some key decisions that would have significant impact. Julian’s support and his experience as a coach and facilitator were invaluable to me during this period. He helped me firstly to understand which attributes of the possible solutions mattered most to me, and then to prioritise my options and identify different ways of moving forward. Julian seemed to instinctively know when to act as a sounding board and when to take on a facilitator role, and his unobtrusive style made it possible to make progress quickly and painlessly, even when considering quite sensitive matters."
