About me
About Stephen & AskStephen
Helping You Become the Best Version of Yourself.
I’m Stephen Walters, founder of AskStephen, a mentor and coach with more than 38 years of experience working with people, businesses and teams.
Throughout my career, one thing has remained constant: people have far more potential within them than they often realise.
My role is to help you unlock that potential.
AskStephen is built around a simple, human approach to mentoring and coaching. It’s not about telling you how to live your life or run your business. It’s about creating a safe, positive space where you can talk openly, think differently, challenge yourself and find practical ways to move forward.
How I Can Help
1:1 Mentoring & Coaching
Personal one-to-one sessions focused entirely on you. We can explore where you are now, where you want to be and what may be holding you back. Together, we turn thoughts into practical actions and help create greater clarity, confidence and direction.
Business Mentoring
Supporting business owners, directors and leaders through the realities of running and growing a business. From leadership and decision-making to structure, communication, relationships and personal effectiveness, I provide an experienced and independent perspective.
Leadership & Team Development
Helping leaders understand themselves and the people around them better. I work with individuals and teams to strengthen communication, trust, accountability, confidence and working relationships.
Board & Meeting Facilitation
Providing independent chairing and facilitation for businesses and leadership teams. I help create the right environment for open conversations, difficult subjects, clear decisions and agreed actions - ensuring everyone has the opportunity to be heard.
Workshops, Education & Speaking
I work with businesses, universities, students and groups to deliver engaging sessions around personal development, entrepreneurship, leadership, communication, resilience, mindset and the skills needed for life and work.
The Four Corners
Much of my approach is centred around four key areas:
Structure • Purpose • Wellbeing • Positivity
I believe these areas are deeply connected. When we create greater balance between them, we give ourselves stronger foundations from which to perform, grow and enjoy life.
My Approach
There is no complicated formula.
I listen. I ask questions. I challenge when appropriate. I share more than three decades of experience, and most importantly, I help people discover answers for themselves.
Sometimes we need strategy. Sometimes we need accountability. Sometimes we need someone to challenge our thinking. And sometimes we simply need a safe space to talk.
I call it unlocking your “internal pharmacy” recognising that many of the tools we need to improve our confidence, resilience, mindset and direction already exist within us.
My job is to help you access them.
Whether you’re a business owner facing a difficult decision, a leader wanting to become more effective, a team that needs to communicate better, or simply someone who knows there is another level within you, AskStephen is about helping you move forward.
No judgement. No unnecessary jargon. Just honest conversations, practical support and positive action.
One conversation can change everything.

Education & Developing the Next Generation
Alongside my work through AskStephen, I am a Business Lecturer at Norwich University of the Arts, where I work with students to develop their understanding of business, entrepreneurship, employability and the skills required to succeed in an ever-changing world.
Working with young people is particularly important to me. I believe education should go beyond academic knowledge and help people develop confidence, curiosity, resilience, communication skills and belief in themselves.
Mentoring & Charitable Work
I am a Trustee of MentorNect, a charity focused on supporting young people with their personal development.
This complements much of what I believe in through AskStephen, creating opportunities for people to discover their strengths, develop confidence and recognise the potential they already have within themselves.
Community & Social Impact
I am also a Director of The Nest, part of Norwich City Community Sports Foundation.
The organisation plays an important role in the local community, using sport, education and community programmes to support people, create opportunities and make a positive difference.
Being involved allows me to contribute my business and people experience while supporting an organisation that is making a genuine impact across our local community.
Connecting the Norfolk Business Community
I am an Ambassador for Norfolk Networking, helping businesses and individuals connect, build relationships and remain curious and inquisitive about the people and opportunities around them.
I strongly believe that great relationships are built through genuine conversations rather than simply exchanging business cards.
Be interested. Be inquisitive. Ask questions. Listen. Connect people.

Additional information
My digital mentoring sessions are designed to give you dedicated time and space to focus entirely on you, your business, your career, your wellbeing, your relationships, your direction, or simply something that you need to work through.
There is no rigid script and no judgement. Every session is different because every person is different. We start with where you are right now and what is important to you. My role is to listen, ask thoughtful and sometimes challenging questions, share the benefit of more than 38 years of business and people experience, and help you see situations from a different perspective. The atmosphere is relaxed, confidential and supportive , a conversation rather than a lecture.
What Can You Expect?
You don’t need to arrive with everything worked out. In fact, sometimes the starting point is simply: “I’m not sure what I need, but I know something needs to change.”
That’s absolutely fine.
Together, we’ll unpack what’s going on, identify what’s really important and explore the things that might be holding you back. We may look at your structure, purpose, wellbeing and positivity, or we might concentrate completely on one immediate challenge or opportunity.
I won’t simply tell you what to do. I’ll help you think, question, reflect and find the answers that are right for you. I’ll challenge you when I think it will help, encourage you when you need it and provide an independent perspective when you’re too close to something to see it clearly.
What Will You Take Away?
My aim is that you leave the session feeling lighter, clearer and more positive about what happens next.
That might mean having:
- Greater clarity around a decision or situation
- A different perspective on something that’s been holding you back
- Clear priorities and practical next steps
- Greater confidence in yourself and your decisions
- Actions that you can start implementing immediately
- Someone to provide accountability and challenge
- A renewed sense of purpose, direction and energy
Not every mentoring session needs to produce a ten-point action plan. Sometimes the most valuable outcome is clarity. Sometimes it’s making one important decision. Sometimes it’s having a conversation you’ve been unable to have anywhere else.
And sometimes it’s recognising that the answer was already within you.
That’s what I call unlocking your internal pharmacy, helping you access the confidence, resilience, positivity and potential you already possess.
Digital 1:1 mentoring sessions start from £300.
One hour. One conversation. Your space.
Let’s discover what could change.
