What's stopping you from getting what you want?
So, you’re in a position in life where you want more? You’re getting frustrated because even though you really want it, it’s not happening. You want answers, am I right?
Maybe you are seeing other people around you achieve what you are wanting and you cannot seem to understand why it is happening for them and not you. In these times, it is good to ask questions. It's even better to answer them.
If I asked you right now, “What’s stopping you?”, would you know what to say? How much time would you spend thinking about the answer before you said what was in your mind? How confident would you feel in your answer once you’ve answered it?
Maybe the answer is simple. Maybe it’s something like “money”. Well, then let me ask you again, “What’s stopping you from earning enough money?”
As a coach, I love to challenge my clients. I understand that nothing is surface level, there is always a way to go deeper to find the root. An answer like “Money is stopping me from achieving what I want to achieve” is surface level, it’s a mask or a costume intended to disguise the true answer that is hiding underneath.
So, let me ask you a different question: what are you willing to do to achieve what you want to achieve? Now, don’t just say “anything”. Let’s be honest with each other, no one is actually willing to do “anything”. Let’s be specific.
I will continue to use the money analogy here. Are you willing to take up another job to earn more money? Even if it meant having to work 12 plus hours per day, every day? Even if it was minimum wage? Are you willing to give up your current job to work one that earns more but it would mean doing something you don’t feel passionate about in the slightest?
What about your spending? Are you willing to spend less per day and live your life with a really strict budget?
What are you willing to give up in order to get what you want? What would you need to give up in order to get what you want?
Now of course this would all be temporary. You can work out how long you would need to do it for before you are where you need to be. It may seem tough at times, but every day I want you to remind yourself that you are now working towards your goal. Every second that goes by where you are actively working towards it, it becomes more and more likely to happen.
Here’s my advice for you. Create a detailed map. Write down what it is that you want. Then work backwards. What do you need to get what you want? What are the ways that you can get it? And what are you willing to do to get it?
Once you have that written down in front of you, ask yourself this: What’s stopping you?
