Avoiding procrastination

It's a big, five syllable word but one that holds most of us up in making progress - some of us might even be professionals in procrastinating to avoid what we either dislike or seems too big to tackle!

It has serious behavioural roots where we choose inaction over action, and it IS a deliberate choice we make. This is not to be confused with having a lack of information or knowledge, or if we're waiting for a decision from someone else.

To help break through the 'avoidance barrier', try these few tips:

At night, make a list of five things you could to do the next day to move towards your goal.

Then, the next morning before you do anything else, do the one thing that you really don't want to do. It's often called 'eat that frog'.

This will help to get rid of procrastination and the stress that is produced while trying to find other things to do, so as to avoid doing the project.

Ask yourself:

"What's in this for me?"
"What is this problem costing me - emotionally, financially, etc?"
"What would be the best part of achieving my goals?"

1-1 coaching to deal with procrastination can also help you to a) get started and b) get the doing habit going.

What are you waiting for?!
