Blocks and barriers in life: Operation subconscious

Summer is officially here and the warm weather is fun and liberating and we can (finally) let go of the harsh winter and its cold days. Of course, life still goes on in the summer, and you still want to pursue your goals and dreams. But there's a set of challenges that you notice are in your way. What can they be? Perhaps, not enough time, it’s someone’s else fault or responsibility that ‘x’ happened?

The same time is available to everyone and, if your life is dependent on someone else or some external circumstance(s), then you are giving your power away to them. A place to look for clues regarding what you can do is your subconscious

Your subconscious is a guide and your internal compass. It gives you hints and at times is trying to make you be aware or, at times shield you from what it perceives as threatening to you. It is basing it on your own self-imposed limitations, that usually stem from your parental programs. Also, it is not wired for growth and progress, which is the role of the conscious brain.

This is where you need to be aware of your intuition (or even sensing or feeling in your body), which can provide insight into potential blocks or barriers that would move you forward in life. This is a bit mysterious or unseen in the beginning, (like your dark side, which we all have). Your subconscious mind is the ‘elephant’ in the room, comprising 95% of your mind - your conscious is only 5%.

How can you get in touch with the subconscious mind?

Being in touch with the subconscious can start by being aware of an area (or areas) of your life that may be unsatisfactory or underperforming in terms of poor results/outcomes. For example, do you notice repeated, harmful or painful patterns in your relationships, family, work/career, finances or communication?

As Carl Jung stated, "Until you make the unconscious conscious, it will direct your life."

Hence, you can’t bury your pain, blocks and barriers and expect great results. It (or they) will come out in some form or manner, through your outcomes, results, behaviour and your health.

Blocks may include:

  • not feeling good enough
  • not deserving
  • not worthy
  • not loveable/unwanted
  • abandoned or neglected
  • insignificant
  • disconnected
  • not smart/intelligent enough
  • not attractive enough
  • anger
  • fear
  • guilt
  • shame
  • trauma
  • feeling victimised/feeling like a victim

The above barriers are also reminders of what you have to learn and provide yourself in this life.

To confront these blocks and barriers, I remind my clients that you have to be comfortable with being uncomfortable and that to get into the light, you have to recognise the darkness and change your thoughts, feelings and mindset.

Finally, as American author, Louis E. Boone declared, "The saddest summary of a life contains three descriptions: could have, might have or should have."

Does that describe you and, if yes, what are you doing about it?
