Hi, my name is Steve
If you are in the Prime of your life and looking to Switch careers, then I am the Career Coach for you.
“Research suggests that the Prime of your career is when you’re in your late thirties through to your late fifties”
Having switched from a long career, it is now my role in life to help people in their Prime define and refine what their career means to them and what that will ultimately look like through doing the work they love to do.
Like me, it could be that you want to take ‘the’ big leap and start your dream business or transition into a new and exciting industry, or maybe you simply want to figure out how to really enjoy and even excel in your current role?
If any of this sounds like you, then I can help!
A little bit about me (more on my website):
It has taken me years to figure out what I wanted from my career, what’s worse is as I look back at my career, I realise how much of the decisions I made were really to fulfil someone else’s idea of who I should be rather than who I am. Not only was my career pathway aligned to everyone else’s idea of who I was, or should be, how I turned up to my roles was also determined by the idea of who I should be which was exhausting, demotivating and guess what, I was deeply unhappy!
To be clear, you don’t need to sink quite as low as I did to know that your career doesn’t quite fit in with who you are anymore, these signs are often glaring and sometimes subtle but almost always indicate that it’s time for you to make a Switch.
Here are 6 tell-tale signs prompting you to see that you are ready to Switch your Career:
1. You’re apathetic and complacent.
You feel increasingly disconnected from your beliefs, values and even the work that you do, at some point you may even begin to wonder what you purpose in life really is!
2. You don’t feel like you’re making an impact.
Your job and your duties begin to feel like they are the same day in and day out, with everyday eventually looking and feeling identical. Simply put, you are performing on autopilot and this feels so unfulfilling.
3. You dread going to work.
While we all have those days when you hit the snooze button one too many times, or it takes a little extra boost to get up and out to work, this is different, this is happening every day and despite your best efforts, the dread of going to work creeps in and starts to impact your home life.
4. Even your salary can’t make up for your dissatisfaction.
The pay might be good you may even have a ‘kick-ass’ pension, but the work is mindless, dreadful and the ends just don’t justify the means. There may have been a time you could have justified staying because of the perks, but now, even that isn’t enough.
5. Your job is affecting your personal life.
Work should be challenging right? but not debilitating. If you’re chronically exhausted, losing sleep, suffering from headaches or experiencing other physical symptoms, this may be your body’s way of telling you that your career is just not right for you anymore!
6. You daydream about a new career.
We’ve all spent our lunch breaks thinking about what you’d do in “your next life” and relishing the thought of how you would deliver your two-weeks’ notice, the ‘grass is always greener on the other-side’ as they say.
In fact, you’ve spent so long thinking about it you know every detail of every single blade BUT here’s the thing, your life is happening right now and you are on the clock, so what are you waiting for?
If any of those signs ring true for you, and there are plenty more believe me, then let’s talk about how you can take back control of your career and actually feel fulfilled about the work you do AND the direction your life is heading.

Training, qualifications & experience
Over the many years, despite my frustrations, I have been fortunate to have worked with some amazing people in high pressure and sometime even exotic environments.
Through my many roles in life, as an engineer, serviceman, supervisor, manager, leader, business owner, husband, brother, friend, mentor and of course coach, my experience has developed in ways I could never have imagined uncovering insights about myself, others and life that have all lead to this very moment.
During my time, I have worked with countless people, from all walks of life, interacting in situations seemingly designed to buildup and tear down relationships of all kinds.
Through all of this, to better my understanding, I have observed, analysed and reflected on what drives people to achieve their dreams, what it takes to overcome their many challenges and most importantly, why some people seem to do achieve these things effortlessly while others appear to struggle only to fail.
As my experiential learning grew, I undertook a life of academic study to better understand what I was observing and how best to serve others including several training and engineering qualifications, a Bachelors Degree with Honours in Management, an MBA, a professionally accredited business coaching qualification and I am working towards a MSc in Psychology....because the way we think is key to our success.
I am also a member of, and follow the Values and Ethical Codes of, the following coaching associations:
- The International Coaching Federation.
- The Association for Coaching.
- The European Mentoring and Coaching Council.
- The Association of Professional Executive Coaching and Supervision.
EMCC UK is part of the Europe-wide European Mentoring & Coaching Council.
Together their aim is to promote good practice and the expectation of good practice in mentoring and coaching across Europe.
EMCC is an independent, impartial and non-profit making organisation.
The Association for Professional Executive Coaching and Supervision (APECS) is the professional body for executive coaching and for the supervision of executive coaches.
The Association is made up of a number of different membership categories, including Associate Member and Accredited Executive Coach. Accredited Members have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by the Association.
Members are bound by Ethical Guidelines and a Complaints Procedure.
