A - Z guide to finding work you love. Letter B
Welcome to the Kickstart Careers A - Z guide to finding work you love, where B stands for 'beliefs'.
Whatever you believe about yourself or whatever you believe about the world of work, it will have a massive impact on your ability to find work you love.
Now if I was to ask you, "what are some of the positive beliefs you have about finding great work?" you might say to me things like, "I'm good at networking", "I've got good support around me", "I'm determined", "if he can do it, so can I" etc.
However, I can guarantee that at some stage along the journey, you will come across limiting beliefs that will either hinder you or even stop you in your progress towards finding work you love.
Do any of these beliefs sound familiar? "I'm not good enough", "I'll never see it through", "no one loves their job", "work isn't supposed to be fun or enjoyable", "get real".....
Now the challenging thing about limiting beliefs is that they're hard to spot because they are so ingrained in our psyche. So the first step is to identify these limiting beliefs. So ask yourself the following questions:
1. What is that belief?
2. Where has it come from?
3. If it's from a person, what's your opinion of that person?
4. What is the impact of holding on to that belief in relation to finding work you love?
Once you've done that it's then a case of replacing that belief. What positive new belief or affirmation can you say to yourself and take on board that will help you rather than hinder you in your pursuit to finding great work? You need to identify, challenge and change your beliefs if you're serious about finding work you love.
If you have any questions about your own barriers and limiting beliefs please let me know.
