A-Z guide to finding work you love - letter A
Welcome to the KickStart Careers A-Z guide to finding work you love.
A stands for accountability.
Now, I don't know where you are on your career journey - maybe progress is going quite slowly or maybe you've been talking a lot about what you'd like to do but you haven't actually got round to doing it yet.
If that's you, chances are you haven't made yourself accountable to somebody else.
Somebody once said that isolation is a dream killer. Yes, it's great to read books and do research on the internet about what you'd like to do and get ideas, but you need somebody who you can bounce your ideas off, who you can share your action plans with and who is not afraid to give you that kick up the backside if necessary. If you haven't got that somebody, then chances are at best, your progress will be slow or at worst, you won't actually do anything at all.
Find a successful person and you'll find someone who has made themselves accountable to somebody else - whether it's a fitness coach at the gym or a group of people down at the local slimming club.
So make it your goal to find at least one person who you can be accountable to. Somebody you can trust, who is willing to support you and is not afraid to give you a few home truths if necessary.
It doesn't have to be a professional or an expert. It could be a friend or a colleague.
So if you're serious about finding work you love, make yourself accountable.
