The Life Professor - Marina Lambrou (Phd)
What I offer
Life coaching is a process that can help you find clarity to make changes. The process is transformative because you engage with what is important in your life so you can take control and make positive changes. Life coaching can help you make that shift as it asks you to evaluate what you know about yourself in the present before you can move on and find purpose and meaning for a better future.
As your life coach, I can help you, whether you feel you are stuck in a rut, going round in circles or trying to find a purpose and direction in life for a better future. We can work together at your own pace to make a positive change. My approach to life coaching is non-judgemental and I have been described as ‘understanding’, ‘calm’ and ‘wise’.
I can support you in the following areas:
- Goal setting for a happier life
- Understanding who you are and what you really want
- Coping with loss and change
- Health and well-being
- Time management
- Career issues
- Work/ life balance
- Relationship issues
Specialist coaching areas:
I can work with you to develop your skills and confidence to be able to speak in public, whether for a special, one-off occasion or for your work where delivering talks in public, to colleagues or to an unfamiliar audience is part of your role.
Course creation coaching
With over twenty-five years’ experience of creating, developing and examining courses – from postgraduate and undergraduate degree courses to exam-orientated courses and induction training courses – I have the knowledge and expertise to coach individuals and organisations to create tailor-made, bespoke courses whether for an online course or for in-house training.
Individual life coaching sessions can be face-to-face (in the London area), via phone calls and skype.
Here is some of the lovely feedback I have received from clients I have life coached:
‘I had a course of life coaching with Marina. I found it incredibly useful in three respects: first, in helping me to think about what my priorities were in life; second, identifying goals that I could work towards; and, finally, galvanising me into action. Marina brings a mix of life coaching techniques combined with really sound judgement, which allows her to focus in on what’s most important and what you need to do to reach your goals. Marina can be challenging but what she’s in the business of doing is enabling you to come up with the answers and she does that expertly. In my case, we worked on a number of financial and personal matters where I had felt stuck. What we came up with together were clear goals and simple steps to move forward on these, with Marina holding me to account to what I said I would do and helping me identify ways around obstacles. Over the course of my sessions with Marina I made really tangible progress and made significant changes in my life’. Sean, London, Civil Servant
‘When I heard about the service that Marina offers I was not sure really what she could do to help me. But I did know I couldn’t sort out my career problems by myself. I thought she’d just focus on how I could move from A to B career wise. And that’s all I felt I needed. Instead she gently, firmly and skillfully led me to the understanding that I didn’t just have a career problem. I was just going through the motions letting outside circumstances dictate what I was doing with my life. When she asked me what I was waiting for? It galvanised me into action. I looked at every aspect of my life, family, finances and yes career too and I made changes. I want my life to end up taking me where I want to and choose to go. And Marina helped me to wake up to that fact. If that’s what you want too, talking to Marina may help you get there’. Joyce, London, Financial Ombudsman
Training, qualifications & experience
My name is Marina Lambrou (PhD) and I am an accredited practitioner life coach with the International Authority for Professional Coaching & Mentoring (IAPCM, previously the IIC&M) based in north London.
I am also an academic and published author. My background is in higher education where I have over 25 years’ experience of teaching, training and mentoring in language and communication. I gained my Doctorate in 2005, researching personal stories, and as an Associate Professor in linguistics and language and a Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Authority, I am an expert in analysing how we communicate through our language choices, whether in the stories we tell about our life experiences or in the language used in the media news. I am able to use these skills as a life coach to make significant insights to help you as I understand the power and effect of language and how we express our ideas and emotions. I am also a TEDx speaker (2016), where I talked about life stories.
I have given many talks internationally and have many publications in the areas of language and communication including the book 'Language and Media' (Durant and Lambrou, 2009, Routledge). My recently published book 'Disnarration and the Unmentioned in Fact and Fiction' (2019) explores different types of narratives, including personal narratives, to understand how we make sense of our life experiences and organise them into stories. I am also interested in grief and the different types of loss, which I am also researching. Here is a link to an article I wrote in June 2018 which focuses on the use of euphemisms in the speech of politicians: http://theconversation.com/from-alternative-facts-to-tender-age-shelters-how-euphemisms-become-political-weapons-of-mass-distraction-98738
Prior to working as an educator, I worked for various departments in the Civil Service, including the Department for Education and The Royal Anniversary Trust, so understand the complexities of working in the public sector.
Like most people, I have experienced the unpredictable ups and downs that life brings, including overcoming a major illness, all of which have made me stronger and more determined to live a fuller life as I reflect on my life choices and priorities. I can also guide you to make the right choices for you.
