Four life truths you need to hear

Life isn’t perfect, and neither are people. There’s always a little room for improvement; whether it’s your career, your relationships, or life in general, we can always strive for more - and to be happier.

Understanding what might be setting you back and tackling it head on, can help you to eradicate what is putting a halt on your happiness. You might also find that you’re able to cope with tough times ahead a lot better.

If you’re struggling to find happiness, consider the following truths and remember them when you need a little boost of reassurance.

1. Life isn’t always happy.

These days, as a society, we put a lot of pressure on ourselves to be ‘happy’. We feel the need to put on a front and pretend to others (and sometimes ourselves) that we’re fine and dandy. But, life can’t always be happy, and neither can you - that’s normal, you’re human after all. It’s OK to have a bad day or week, so stop being hard on yourself.

2. You can’t control the way someone acts towards you - but you can control the way you react.

Sometimes, for whatever reason, other people aren’t nice. When someone acts out towards you, it’s tempting and even feels natural, to retaliate and respond aggressively. But, whether it’s holding your tongue, or just walking away, that is often more powerful than firing back and contributing to the hostility.

Give yourself time to process how you feel, and formulate the best response to ease the situation and prevent unnecessary arguments.

3. Sometimes, people won’t like you - and that’s ok.

Everyone has different tastes. Life would be very boring if we all liked the same things and the same types of people.

Remember, it doesn’t matter if they like you or not, and you won’t find happiness in trying to be liked by everyone. Be yourself, and be happy in who you are - that is more important.

4. The opinions and beliefs of others are not your concern.

If you’re an opinionated person, whether it’s on an issue in particular, or about life in general, you might find it hard to bite your tongue if you hear something that differs from your point of view.

But, it is not your job to try to sway other people’s views; what you believe is right, may be completely wrong to someone else. Just let it go, and let other people have their own opinion.
