About me

Executive and Life Coaching, Performance Coaching and Personal Development

Do you sometimes feel that something is holding you back from achieving what you want in life or work? Perhaps you're struggling with confidence, feeling stuck in familiar patterns, facing an important decision or wanting to improve your performance but are unsure how to move forward.

You might be successful in certain areas of your life but still experience self-doubt, perfectionism or difficulty making changes. Alternatively, you may be navigating a significant life transition, considering a new professional direction or simply wanting to develop a greater sense of purpose and fulfilment.

I'm Philip Bruce, founder of Evariane, where I offer psychologically informed life coaching, executive coaching, performance coaching and personal development.

I work with people who want to make positive changes in their lives, achieve meaningful goals, improve their performance and develop greater confidence in themselves and their abilities.

What distinguishes my approach is the combination of coaching psychology and my extensive professional experience as a psychotherapist specialising in trauma, emotional regulation and the psychological processes that influence human behaviour.

My clinical background has given me an understanding of how our experiences, beliefs, emotional responses and nervous system processes can influence our confidence, motivation, relationships and ability to make changes in our lives.

This perspective is particularly valuable when we recognise what we want to achieve but find ourselves repeatedly encountering the same difficulties, patterns or barriers.

Whether you're looking to make a significant life change, overcome something that's holding you back, improve your performance at work or gain a clearer sense of direction, coaching can provide the space, support and structure to help you move forward.

My approach combines contemporary coaching psychology with an understanding of human behaviour, motivation, emotional regulation and the factors that influence how we think, feel and respond to challenges.

I believe that understanding ourselves better is often an important part of creating meaningful and sustainable change.

What can coaching help you achieve?

People seek coaching for many different reasons. You might have a particular goal in mind, or you may simply recognise that something in your life could be different.

Life coaching and personal development

Life coaching can help you explore what matters most to you, identify the changes you want to make and develop greater clarity about your future.

This might involve improving your work-life balance, navigating life transitions, building healthier habits, increasing motivation or finding a renewed sense of purpose and direction.

You may feel that you've reached a point where you want something to change but are uncertain about what that change should look like.

Through coaching, we can explore your values, priorities and aspirations, helping you develop a clearer understanding of what matters to you and how you might move towards it.

Performance coaching

Performance coaching focuses on helping you develop your capabilities and achieve your potential, whether in your professional life, education or personal pursuits.

We can explore the psychological and practical factors influencing your performance, including motivation, focus, confidence, self-belief, habits and responses to pressure.

Sometimes difficulties with performance are not simply a matter of lacking skills or knowledge. Patterns such as perfectionism, fear of failure, excessive self-criticism or difficulty managing competing demands can influence how effectively we use our abilities.

Coaching can help you recognise these patterns and develop approaches that support greater confidence, effectiveness and consistency.

The aim is not simply to achieve more, but to develop effective and sustainable ways of working towards your goals.

Confidence and self-belief

Self-doubt, perfectionism and excessive self-criticism can influence how we approach opportunities, relationships and challenges.

You may find yourself questioning decisions, comparing yourself with others or avoiding opportunities because you are uncertain about your abilities.

Even people who appear outwardly confident and successful can experience significant internal doubt.

Coaching can help you recognise these patterns, develop greater self-awareness and build the confidence to make decisions, take action and pursue opportunities that matter to you.

Executive and leadership coaching

Leadership brings opportunities for professional growth but can also involve considerable pressure, uncertainty and responsibility.

I work with executives, managers, business owners and professionals who want to develop their leadership capabilities, strengthen their decision-making and become more effective in their roles.

Our coaching may explore leadership confidence, communication, managing competing priorities, navigating difficult professional relationships and responding effectively to pressure.

My approach recognises that effective leadership involves more than developing professional skills. It also requires an understanding of how our thinking patterns, emotional responses and relationships influence the way we lead and interact with others.

Coaching provides an opportunity to step away from immediate demands, reflect on challenges and develop greater clarity about your leadership approach.

Career and professional development

Whether you're considering a career change, seeking promotion, taking on new responsibilities or feeling uncertain about your professional direction, coaching can help you clarify your priorities and explore your options.

Career decisions can involve competing priorities, uncertainty and questions about confidence, identity and personal values.

We can work together to identify your strengths, understand what motivates you and develop the confidence and practical strategies needed to progress towards your professional goals.

ADHD and neurodiversity-informed coaching

I recognise that people think, learn, process information and respond to challenges in different ways.

For individuals with ADHD, autism or other neurodivergent profiles, conventional approaches to motivation, organisation and performance may not always be effective.

My coaching recognises individual differences in attention, executive functioning, emotional regulation and information processing.

We work collaboratively to understand your strengths, explore areas of difficulty and develop personalised approaches that support your goals.

This might involve developing strategies for managing competing priorities, improving organisation, understanding motivation, navigating professional challenges or finding more sustainable ways of working.

Stress, resilience and work-life balance

The demands of everyday life can sometimes leave us feeling overwhelmed, stretched or unable to maintain a healthy balance.

Coaching can help you understand how you respond to pressure, recognise patterns that may be contributing to stress and develop more sustainable approaches to managing responsibilities and maintaining wellbeing.

We may explore issues such as overcommitment, difficulty establishing boundaries, perfectionism, excessive responsibility or finding it difficult to switch off from work.

My background in psychotherapy has given me an understanding of how our nervous systems respond to perceived demands and uncertainty, and how these responses can influence our thinking, behaviour and emotional wellbeing.

Within coaching, this knowledge can help inform greater self-awareness and the development of practical strategies for responding more effectively to everyday challenges.

The aim is to develop greater awareness of your responses to pressure and identify practical changes that support both your effectiveness and wellbeing.

My approach to coaching

I believe coaching should be collaborative, practical and tailored to the individual.

Rather than offering a predetermined set of solutions, I work with you to explore your circumstances, understand what matters to you and identify the changes you would like to make.

My approach draws on coaching psychology and psychological research, including an understanding of how our beliefs, behaviours, emotions and nervous system responses can influence our decisions and actions.

Sometimes the challenge is identifying what we want to achieve. At other times, we know exactly what we want but find ourselves struggling to make progress.

Coaching provides an opportunity to understand what may be getting in the way and develop strategies that support meaningful action.

Our sessions may involve exploring different perspectives, identifying strengths, challenging assumptions, developing new habits or creating practical plans to support your goals.

I recognise that meaningful change is rarely a straightforward process. Our circumstances, relationships, previous experiences and established ways of responding can all influence how we approach challenges and opportunities.

For example, someone may recognise that they need to become more assertive but find it difficult to establish boundaries. Another person may have the skills and knowledge to progress professionally but struggle with self-doubt or fear of making mistakes.

These challenges are not always resolved simply by setting new goals.

By developing greater awareness of the psychological and behavioural patterns involved, we can begin to explore different ways of thinking, responding and taking action.

Throughout the process, the emphasis remains on helping you develop the awareness, confidence and skills to move forward independently.

What makes my approach different?

My coaching approach is informed by two complementary areas of professional experience: contemporary coaching psychology and an established clinical background in psychotherapy.

I am a Coaching Psychology Practitioner currently undertaking an MSc in Coaching Psychology at the University of Chichester, studying on a programme accredited by the British Psychological Society (BPS).

Alongside this training, I have extensive experience as a practising psychotherapist specialising in trauma and the psychological processes that influence emotional and behavioural responses.

My clinical experience includes working with people experiencing complex psychological difficulties, helping me develop an understanding of how previous experiences, underlying beliefs, emotional responses and nervous system processes can influence our lives.

Traditional coaching often focuses on identifying goals, developing strategies and creating accountability. While these are important elements of effective coaching, I am also interested in understanding the psychological processes that influence whether we are able to make meaningful changes.

For example, someone may recognise that perfectionism is affecting their performance but find it difficult to change their expectations of themselves. Another person may understand that they need to establish healthier boundaries but struggle with the discomfort associated with doing so.

My experience as a trauma psychotherapist has developed my understanding of how established patterns of behaviour, emotional responses and underlying beliefs can influence our ability to respond differently.

I have particular experience in understanding how people respond to stress, uncertainty and challenging experiences, including the ways in which our nervous systems can influence our thoughts, emotions and behaviour.

Within coaching, this understanding helps me take a more individualised and psychologically informed approach to exploring barriers, developing self-awareness and supporting change.

Coaching and psychotherapy remain distinct services. My coaching is focused on personal development, performance and future goals rather than treating psychological disorders or processing trauma.

However, my wider psychological experience brings an additional depth of understanding to the coaching relationship, particularly when exploring patterns that may be influencing confidence, motivation, behaviour and personal development.

My aim is to combine psychological insight with practical, goal-focused coaching that helps you develop greater confidence, effectiveness and a more sustainable approach to personal and professional development.

Working together

I offer one-to-one coaching to adults from a wide range of backgrounds.

You may be seeking support with a particular challenge, working towards an important goal or simply wanting to explore opportunities for personal or professional growth.

Sessions are available online throughout the UK or face-to-face at my practice at Hartham Park, Corsham, near Bath.

We begin by exploring what you would like to achieve, identifying your priorities and agreeing on a coaching approach suited to your needs.

Coaching sessions provide a confidential, supportive and appropriately challenging environment in which you can reflect, explore new perspectives and develop practical approaches to change.

Whether you're looking to improve your performance, build confidence, navigate change, develop as a leader or create a more fulfilling direction in life, I aim to provide the psychological understanding, support and structure to help you move forward.

My goal is not simply to help you achieve your immediate objectives, but to support you in developing greater self-awareness, confidence and the ability to create meaningful and sustainable change in your life.

Training, qualifications & experience

Professional background

I am a Coaching Psychology Practitioner and founder of Evariane, bringing together postgraduate training in coaching psychology with extensive professional experience as a practising psychotherapist specialising in trauma and emotional wellbeing.

I am currently undertaking an MSc in Coaching Psychology at the University of Chichester, studying on a programme accredited by the British Psychological Society (BPS).

The programme was the first MSc in Coaching Psychology to receive BPS accreditation in the UK. It provides advanced academic and practical training in the psychological principles underpinning human behaviour, motivation, performance, wellbeing and personal development.

My training incorporates evidence-informed coaching approaches, psychological research, professional ethics, supervised coaching practice and the application of psychology to individual and organisational development.

Alongside my academic studies, I have an established psychotherapy practice, working with individuals experiencing a wide range of emotional, psychological and behavioural difficulties.

This clinical experience is particularly relevant to my coaching work. It has provided me with an understanding of the psychological processes that influence how people respond to challenges, manage pressure, develop confidence, make decisions and approach change.

I believe this combination of clinical experience and coaching psychology enables me to offer a psychologically informed approach that goes beyond conventional goal-setting and performance strategies.

Psychotherapy experience and specialist training

My professional background includes extensive specialist training in contemporary psychological and psychotherapeutic approaches.

These include:

Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR)

Specialist training and clinical experience in EMDR, an established psychological therapy used in the treatment of trauma and post-traumatic stress.

This work has developed my understanding of how previous experiences, emotional responses and underlying beliefs can influence present-day behaviour, confidence and decision-making.

Internal Family Systems (IFS)

Training and experience in Internal Family Systems, a therapeutic approach concerned with understanding different aspects of our internal experience, including conflicting motivations, protective responses and established patterns of behaviour.

This has informed my wider understanding of self-awareness, internal conflict and the challenges people can experience when attempting to make meaningful changes.

Brainspotting and nervous system-informed approaches

Specialist training in Brainspotting and somatic approaches to psychotherapy, providing an understanding of the relationship between emotional experiences, physiological responses and the nervous system.

This perspective is particularly valuable in understanding responses to pressure, stress, uncertainty and challenging situations.

Schema Therapy

Training in approaches that explore established patterns of thinking, emotional responses and behaviour, including how underlying beliefs and expectations can influence our experiences and relationships.

Neurodivergence and emotional regulation

My professional experience also includes working with autistic and ADHD presentations, emotional regulation difficulties, perfectionism, psychological resilience and the impact of stress on everyday functioning.

This provides additional knowledge when working with coaching clients who may benefit from an individualised approach to motivation, organisation, attention and performance.

Coaching psychology training

My MSc in Coaching Psychology at the University of Chichester is developing my knowledge and professional practice across several important areas, including:

  • Psychological approaches to motivation, behaviour change and personal development.
  • Coaching psychology models and evidence-informed interventions.
  • Coaching for health, wellbeing and sustainable performance.
  • Leadership, organisational development and psychological processes within the workplace.
  • Psychological research and its application to coaching.
  • Ethical practice, professional boundaries and reflective development.
  • Supervised coaching practice and ongoing professional development.

The programme combines academic study with practical coaching experience and supervision, supporting the development of a reflective and research-informed coaching practice.

How my experience informs my coaching

My experience as a psychotherapist has given me an appreciation of the complexity of human behaviour and the many factors that can influence our ability to achieve personal and professional goals.

For example, difficulties with confidence, perfectionism, motivation or decision-making are not always simply a matter of lacking the right strategies.

Our established beliefs, emotional responses, previous experiences and ways of responding to pressure can also play an important role.

My clinical background enables me to recognise these influences and bring an additional level of psychological understanding to the coaching relationship.

This does not mean that coaching becomes psychotherapy. The two remain distinct services, with different aims and professional boundaries.

Instead, my psychological knowledge informs a collaborative, reflective and goal-focused coaching approach that supports clients in developing greater self-awareness, understanding their responses and making meaningful changes.

Through Evariane, my aim is to combine the scientific foundations of coaching psychology with extensive professional experience of working with human behaviour, emotional processes and personal change.

I believe this provides a valuable foundation for supporting individuals seeking life coaching, performance coaching, executive development and meaningful personal or professional growth.
