About me

As a Personal Performance and Life Coach, I support clients as they positively move forward with their lives. I encourage clients to reflect on what really matters to them, help raise their awareness of their situation, their skills and strengths, but also enable them to take responsibility for the development of an action plan, allowing them to move forward and realise their goals and dreams.

I strongly believe in being genuinely curious, empathetic, and honest. My realistic, but importantly, non-judgemental approach in coaching, allows me to develop good rapport with clients and together we can build the strong trusting relationships required for successful coaching partnerships.

I coach individuals with a variety of personal goals:

  • Personal Development: helping those with general Life issues identify what they want to achieve, the skills and resources they already have, and then support them as they move forward and make those positive changes.
  • Careers: defining a career path post sport, education, or returning to work after a break. I enable clients to identify skills, resources, passions and key stakeholders, before exploring priorities and strategies to secure jobs in their chosen areas.
  • Health and Wellbeing: including re-entering the workplace, menopausal issues, confidence, weight loss and exercise. We explore challenges, values and limiting beliefs, helping reframe negativity and go on to develop an action plan for clients to work towards their goals.
  • Elite Athletes: dealing with the demands of elite sport, combining elite sport and further education or work. We work on purpose, priorities and strategies moving forward. Successfully helping athletes develop better organisational skills to improve all round performance, resilience, mindset, together with good mental health and wellbeing.
  • Further Education: helping students manage the requirements of Undergraduate and Post Graduate Degree programs, learn to prioritise, develop time management skills and a plan for success, whilst also addressing general wellbeing.

Coaching Presence

My core values are integrity, authenticity, curiosity and kindness. My coaching approach also focuses on empathy, active listening, and the creation of a non-judgmental, safe and confidential environment.

This safe space, allows my clients to freely express their concerns and aspirations, explore and reflect on their thoughts, feelings and life experiences and then go on to make an action plan of the changes they desire, in their own highly individual way.

Coaching Sessions

Coaching is a partnership, whereby I listen a lot, and our conversations allow clients the time to think and process information. This alone is very powerful and can have profound benefits for clients.

Sometimes reflective exercises are useful to help identify a clients skills and strengths, weaknesses and opportunities and how to make the most of them. Personality Profiling is also a fascinating exercise to help us better understand ourselves and others. However, use of such exercises, including those involving Neuro Linguistic Programming (NLP), will always be discussed and agreed with clients beforehand.

Coaching Sessions with myself are usually 1 hour in length, delivered virtually via Zoom, MS Teams, or another video platform of the client’s choice. There is also the option to meet in person, if we both feel comfortable with the arrangement.

The number of sessions is very much dependent upon the topic and on the client’s requirements. I typically offer a free introductory session to explore the clients coaching requirements, but also to make sure we are both comfortable working together. We can then agree together on the best approach going forward, whether this is a one-off session, or a series of 6-8 sessions at weekly, or fortnightly intervals.

Training, qualifications & experience

My coaching approach is built on over 30 years of experience in Further Education at a leading University, teaching and supervising Undergraduate Medical students; Postgraduate Medical and Para-Medical Professionals and various PhD students conducting Human Physiology Research.

I have also had experience in sport as an elite athlete myself, a sports Coach and the parent of an elite athlete.

I am genuinely passionate about helping individuals develop, improve their personal performance and realise their full potential. I believe everyone has the ability to utilise their skills and resources, find the support they need, overcome challenges and move forward to successfully achieve their goals in life.

I am a qualified Personal Performance Coach and have a Diploma in NLP (Neuro Linguistic Programming). I have regular ongoing Coaching Supervision and participate in continual professional development, attending accredited seminars, workshops, and Coaching Forums both online and in person.

Testimonials:

“Julie’s Coaching sessions were very helpful when I was struggling to get focus on some challenges. She was very warm, kind and easy to talk to and made me feel comfortable enough to share my thoughts and feelings honestly."

"I'm very grateful that I've had the opportunity to have these sessions with Julie as she was so easy to open up to and talk to. During our sessions, she helped me realise how I can improve myself and what I'm truly capable of."

“During the course of my 10 coaching sessions, Julie has helped me in many different ways, varying from my professional and home life. She has helped and encouraged me to step out of my comfort zone and break issues and targets into steps. Over the course of the 10 sessions I have attained a new job, qualifications, experiences and life-long targets, which I now know how to tackle.”

"Julie listens attentively, she challenges appropriately, is supportive and non-judgmental. I have felt a connection since we first met and this has strengthened overtime based on empathy, trust and respect. I would highly recommend Julie as a coach to work with.”

“I feel incredibly lucky to have worked with Julie on my mindset around performance and success in sport. I was really struggling to believe in myself before the coaching, but within 6 weeks, I had achieved several PBs and been selected to represent GB internationally! Julie helped me reframe what I believed was possible for me as an unfunded athlete juggling a full-time career with training. I found the reflection and preparation required for the sessions really helpful, to focus each session and get the best results for me and my life.”

“Julie helped me identify what my goals were and in turn helped by discussing potential actions I could take in order to achieve them. Breaking these goals into smaller targets and actions made them easier to accomplish, which in turn helped build my confidence towards achieving my larger goals. Julie was always friendly and non-judgemental, making me feel comfortable enough to share my thoughts and feeling honestly, which enabled us to reach the most effective solution in relation to my personal situation.”
