How to mediate – guiding conflict towards resolution using NVC
Learn how to guide any conflict towards resolution – creating the conditions for connection so that solutions emerge naturally without...
Most people who find themselves in the middle of conflict make the same mistake.
They try to fix it. They try to be fair. They try to get both sides to see reason. And without meaning to, they become part of the problem.
Because mediation is not about fixing people. It is not about deciding who is right. It is not about finding a compromise that leaves everyone half satisfied.
The role of the mediator is to create the conditions for connection.
When people feel genuinely heard, understood and respected – solutions emerge that meet everyone's needs. Without pressure. Without force. Without anyone having to lose.
That is what this workshop teaches you how to do.
Whether you mediate professionally – as a manager, HR professional, counsellor or coach – or you find yourself navigating conflict between the people in your personal life, the skill is the same.
The ability to hold space for both sides. To stay present, neutral and active without getting pulled into the conflict. To guide a conversation towards understanding rather than resolution by force.
And when emotions are high, and communication breaks down – to offer the kind of empathy that brings people back to each other.
What this workshop is
This is a live, guided 2-hour NVC practice session focused entirely on the role of the mediator – what it actually is, what it isn't and how to do it with skill and compassion.
You will learn how to create an environment where both parties feel safe enough to express their needs clearly. How to keep track of the conversation so neither person feels unheard. How to stay present and focused – away from blame, analysis and the past – and towards what each person needs right now.
When real connection is established, the problem often begins to solve itself.
What you'll leave with
- a clear understanding of the true role of the mediator – and what it is not;
- the ability to create the conditions for connection between two people in conflict;
- tools to guide conversations towards strategies that meet everyone's needs – not partial compromises;
- the skill to stay neutral while remaining active, present and effective;
- how to offer empathy when emotions are high, and communication has broken down;
- how to keep both parties feeling heard and equally valued throughout the process;
- the confidence to mediate conflict in any setting – personal or professional.
Who this is for
Anyone who recognises this in themselves:
- you find yourself in the middle of other people's conflicts and don't know how to help without making it worse;
- you are a manager, HR professional, counsellor, coach or therapist who mediates conflict as part of your work;
- you want to support people through conflict without getting pulled in or taking sides;
- you watch people you care about destroy their relationship through unresolved conflict and feel helpless;
- you want to mediate with skill, compassion and genuine effectiveness.
Couples are welcome. Colleagues are welcome. You can come alone and leave changed.
