Are you an acorn spotter?

When I ran a tree surgery company, it was easy to build that business. I would advertise - people would know what a tree surgeon was and they would be actively looking for one. They were also motivated and happy to pay because, if they didn’t, the tree in question was likely to fall on their house or block their drains or steal their light.

Then I moved to my current profession and found it a real challenge at first to enrol clients. I was a bit taken aback by this initially, as I’d benefited so much myself from it that I could not understand why my phone wasn’t ringing non-stop.

I am now wiser though, and I understand many of the reasons people will be more motivated to get a dangerous tree removed than they are to remove dangerous habits and thoughts from their mind. Even though both have equal potential to harm you.

If you’re struggling with something right now, that’s OK, but get whatever help you require. Just keep going until you get the right help.

If that’s with me then great but, if my style of working doesn’t resonate with you, then try someone else. But just keep going until you get there. So many people I work with weren’t even looking for help, but they benefitted greatly from it.

Ignore the taboos around all of this. You don’t have to be suicidal or severely depressed to get help. In fact, most of the people I work with have a pretty good life and have things going well in most areas, but still find this extremely useful to them.

We all have those dangerous or overgrown trees in our mind and they should be given the same attention as the ones in your garden. Just because you cannot see them in the same way, they are there nonetheless. If left to do as it pleases, a small sapling can grow into something huge that will one day fall and crush everything in its way. Better to trim it while it’s still small.

Hardly anyone notices the acorn (good or bad) but everyone sees the mighty Oak, especially if it has just landed on them. So, become an acorn spotter.

Nobody ever became suicidal in one day, nor built a great life in one step.

These are strange times right now and, as we enter 2021, you need to have your mental game in tip-top condition. Otherwise, you are going to get swallowed up or taken down by all of this, as many already have.

When we get right down to the nuts and bolts of it, we can only ever live to the level of our personal development, so get pruning and if you need some external help in doing that (which we always do) then get some. If that's with me, great, but if not continue until you find the right person, who's a good match for you. You will be glad you did.

Wishing you a blessed life.
