About me

MIDLIFE ONWARDS - CREATE POSITIVE CHANGE & FULFILLMENT

Hi, I'm Glynis, a qualified, experienced coach.

I specialise in Life, Career, and Career Change Coaching for professional clients in midlife, into their 60s.

I've 19 years' coaching experience and also over 20 years' experience in education and personal development.

My career also includes writing features on careers and personal development for the media, and mentoring writers.

WHAT I OFFER

I work with clients who are considering change and aren't sure what to do. I'm passionate about supporting you with finding clarity and making changes.

If you're in your late 40s or older you've given years to your career. It can be daunting to accept it's not working any more. You could be bored, burnt out or a round peg in a square hole. Work could be affecting your relationships or your wellbeing. You could be pulled in different directions, maybe by well-meaning friends or family -  and getting nowhere.  How can I help you change this?

Career Coaching includes positive changes to your career, career change, personal development and longer-term career goals.

Coaching will help you with self-destructive behaviour - negative thoughts, fear of change, lack of confidence - that holds you back.

  • Overcome procrastination and wasting emotional energy.
  • Build you confidence to enhance your personal development.
  • Create a structure and timescale for your goals.
  • Become aware of your strengths.
  • Let go of negative thoughts and self-doubt.
  • Share your emotions and ideas without fear of judgement.
  • Know you are working with a coach who wants the best for you.

Through our conversations you'll discover what you want and create a structure. I'm caring, supportive and on your side.

Dreaming about running a bar on a Mediterranean island might be on your list (and one of my clients decided to do exactly that) but if it's not -  what do you want to achieve?

I've coached hundreds of clients whose careers include science, the arts, finance, IT, teaching, education, art, writing, and running their own business.

HOW I COACH

Coaching is a conversation. Talking to someone who's not a friend or family is enlightening and powerful. You can be honest about your dreams and what you want to achieve.

  • All coaching in planned for you as an individual.
  • I use active listening, thought-provoking exercises and meaningful conversations, including Cognitive Behavioural Coaching.
  • Coaching is led by you and I support you without judgement.
  • I don't make choices for you.
  • I will challenge your beliefs if they hold you back.

I also mentor Writers. I'm experienced in supporting clients with dyslexia. See Further Information.

BEING A GOOD FIT

Coaching works best when you feel comfortable with your coach. I offer a free initial discussion. I'd love to have an initial chat with you about coaching.

CLIENTS' COMMENTS

I cannot thank Glynis enough for the coaching I received. The space she held for me (that felt like a total decadence at first!) quickly became a vital channel to allow and enable me to explore my next work steps in the context of the family picture. Glynis rebuilt lost confidence and focused my thinking, encouraging and supporting me to persist and believe in my abilities.
Soon after my coaching concluded, undeterred by the inevitable rejections, thanks to new found belief, I landed my ideal job, testament to this valuable personal investment. Mrs G S

I was in the creative doldrums, wanting to do more designing and making, but lacking a purpose to do so. Glynis helped me to identify what was holding me back and suggested ways to move forward. Since then, with Glynis' support, I have a renewed enthusiasm and new goals. I am looking forward to a creative future.   Mrs C A

I went to see Glynis with a specific goal in mind, without an actual idea how to get there or where to start from. From the very first session, Glynis recognised my strengths and understood where I’d need some more guidance.

I consider myself as a pretty organised, full of energy, positive person with great time keeping. I knew exactly where I wanted to go, but I didn’t know how to get there. Finally, I reached my decision to start a new life, knowing at the back of my mind that I CAN make it happen. Today, a year later, I am divorced from a very dysfunctional marriage. I am feeling happy and no longer walk on egg shells in my day-to-day life. It was very tough decision to make and without Glynis’ help it would have taken me at least another year to reach my end goal. Ms A L

Here's a bit about me.

I've been a coach for 19 years after retraining in midlife. I've coached hundreds of clients both in the UK and overseas.

One of the reasons I work with clients in midlife, especially on careers, is because of my own experience. After many years in education, where I was also mentoring students, I trained as a coach.

My career began as a teacher of English in secondary schools. I'm also qualified and experienced in working with dyslexic clients.

After writing two self-help books on education, I wrote for The Times, Telegraph, Guardian, websites and magazines. My features were on mental health, careers, parenting, wellbeing and education. I contributed a fortnightly career column to the i newspaper for several years.

I also offer mentoring for writers. One of my clients with a former professional career is now a very successful journalist and two former clients are now published authors of non-fiction books.

I can offer coaching to anyone with any writing ambitions.

See Further Information.

But that's enough about me.

If you think I can help you, whatever you want to change, get in touch for a no-obligation discussion.

WRITING

  • Do you have writing ambitions?
  • Not sure where to start or even believe that you can write?
  • How about some support?

You could be a complete beginner, maybe looking at a career change, or professional needing a refresh. As a published author, experienced freelance journalist and an experienced writing coach, I mentor writers with:

  • Non-fiction books
  • Journalism for newsprint, magazines, websites
  • Choosing a literary agent or a publisher
  • Submitting your book to an agent or publisher

Mentoring and Feedback

Have you written something and aren't sure if you're on the right lines? Would you like honest feedback as well as advice and insight into publication, if that's your aim?

As your writing coach and mentor, we can work together on anything you've started or want to start. I'll share my professional experience, as well as supporting you with your writing.

How does it work?

My role is to support you, which could include having a conversation perhaps once a month and reading your work, or discussing your ideas.

If you want an honest appraisal of something you've written and how you could find a publisher or improve your writing, get in touch.

Please contact me, preferably by email (or my contact form) to book a time for your initial discussion.
