About me

MIDLIFE ONWARDS - POSITIVE CHANGE & FULFILLMENT

I specialise in Life, Career, and Career Change Coaching for professional clients in midlife, through to their 60s. I'm an experienced coach who's coached professional clients - including the financial sectors, media, arts, science, academia, business owners - for 19 years.

WHAT I OFFER

Career coaching works on many different levels - changes to your current career if you're sure it's where you want to stay - to starting a new career perhaps involving retraining. And both often include your work-life balance and longer-term plans, looking ahead to the time when you might wind-down a little. Or you could be at that point now.

I'm passionate about supporting you with decisions, creating change and maximising your wellbeing.

You'll probably recognise yourself thinking about one or more of these:

  • Changes within your current career to make it more fulfilling.
  • Time-management and work-life balance.
  • Career-change, re-training, developing a business.
  • Going back into work after a break.
  • Improving your confidence and performance at interviews.
  • Developing your creative side as a springboard for a new career.
  • Changing negative habits or mindsets that hold you back.

Change can be unsettling, no matter how much you want it. Have you been procrastinating?

Through our conversations you'll discover what you want and how to get there. I'm caring and supportive, but will challenge negative thinking that holds you back so you can create change.

Dreaming about running a bar on a Mediterranean island might be on your list (one of my clients decided to do exactly that.)  But if that's a step too far, what do you dream about doing? Let's talk about that.

HOW I COACH

Think of coaching as a conversation. I'm on your side. Talking to someone who isn't your friend or family can be enlightening. And you'll start to see things more clearly, make decisions and take action.

  • All coaching in planned for you as an individual.
  • I use coaching techniques - active listening, thought-provoking exercises and meaningful conversations, including Cognitive Behavioural Coaching.
  • Coaching is led by you and I support you without judgement.
  • I don't make choices for you.
  • I will challenge your beliefs if they hold you back.

I also offer mentoring and coaching for writers, and specialist support for dyslexics. See Further Information.

BEING A GOOD FIT

Coaching works best when you feel comfortable with your coach. We need to feel we can work together, which is why I offer a free initial discussion. I'd love to have an initial chat with you about coaching.

CLIENTS' COMMENTS

I cannot thank Glynis enough for the coaching I received. The space she held for me (that felt like a total decadence at first!) quickly became a vital channel to allow and enable me to explore my next work steps in the context of the family picture. Glynis rebuilt lost confidence and focused my thinking, encouraging and supporting me to persist and believe in my abilities.
Soon after my coaching concluded, undeterred by the inevitable rejections, thanks to new found belief, I landed my ideal job, testament to this valuable personal investment. Mrs G S

I was in the creative doldrums, wanting to do more designing and making, but lacking a purpose to do so. Glynis helped me to identify what was holding me back and suggested ways to move forward. Since then, with Glynis' support, I have a renewed enthusiasm and new goals. I am looking forward to a creative future.   Mrs C A

I went to see Glynis with a specific goal in mind, without an actual idea how to get there or where to start from. From the very first session, Glynis recognised my strengths and understood where I’d need some more guidance.

I consider myself as a pretty organised, full of energy, positive person with great time keeping. I knew exactly where I wanted to go, but I didn’t know how to get there. Finally, I reached my decision to start a new life, knowing at the back of my mind that I CAN make it happen. Today, a year later, I am divorced from a very dysfunctional marriage. I am feeling happy and no longer walk on egg shells in my day-to-day life. It was very tough decision to make and without Glynis’ help it would have taken me at least another year to reach my end goal. Ms A L

Here's a bit about me.

I've been a coach for 19 years after retraining in midlife. I've coached hundreds of clients both in the UK and overseas.

One of the reasons I work with clients in midlife, especially on careers, is because of my own experience. After many years in education, I moved into coaching and writing (as an author and journalist.) I now focus on career coaching and mentoring writers.

For over 20 years I was a teacher, starting in secondary schools teaching English to A-level. I added dyslexia training to that and went on to support adults, which included coaching and mentoring.

I wrote two self-help books on parenting and education and subsequently wrote for The Times, Telegraph, Guardian, websites and magazines. I contributed a fortnightly career column to the i newspaper for several years, focusing mainly on 'how to get into' various career paths.

One of my clients with a former professional career is now a very successful journalist and two former clients are now published authors of non-fiction books.

I can offer coaching to anyone with any writing ambitions.

See Further Information.

But that's enough about me.

If you think I can help you, whatever you want to change, get in touch for a no-obligation discussion.

OTHER COACHING & MENTORING

I offer two specialist mentoring services.  Mentoring differs slightly from coaching because it does include advice and sharing professional expertise.

DYSLEXIA AND ADHD

If you're dyslexic or have ADHD and are struggling at work or at home, there are strategies to help. Together, we can talk through what you find challenging whether that's time-management, communication, organisation.

MENTORING FOR WRITERS

Do you have writing ambitions? Not sure where to start or even believe that you can write? How about some support? You could be a complete beginner, maybe looking at a career change, or professional needing a refresh. As a published author, experienced freelance journalist and an experienced writing coach, I mentor writers with:

  • Novels
  • Non-fiction books
  • Journalism for newsprint, magazines, websites
  • Choosing a literary agent or a publisher
  • Submitting your book to an agent or publisher

Mentoring and Feedback

Have you written something and aren't sure if you're on the right lines? Would you like honest feedback as well as advice and insight into publication, if that's your aim?

As your writing coach and mentor, we can work together on anything you've started or want to start. I'll share my professional experience, as well as supporting you with your writing.

If you want an honest appraisal of something you've written and how you could find a publisher or improve your writing, get in touch.

Please contact me, preferably by email (or my contact form) to book a time for your initial discussion.
