About me

CAREERS IN MIDLIFE AND BEYOND  - DEFINE YOUR FUTURE

I specialise in Life, Career, and Career Change Coaching for clients in midlife through to their 60s and 70s.

I'm a highly experienced coach, working with private clients for 18 years. I had a career-change in midlife - a sideways step - which you can read about in Training & Experience, down the page.

WHO I WORK WITH

I work with clients who, when they are often in their late forties or older, start to feel that their career is no longer ticking enough boxes. They're bored, restless, unfulfilled and want a better work-life balance. And certainly can't envisage another twenty years of the same. But, at the same time, they're unsure of what they want or how to get there.

Is this you? Are you a round peg in a square hole? Did you choose the wrong career and believe it's too late to start again (which it may not be)?

Do you want to down-size your career and run something else alongside it, especially if you're creative and have a back-burner ambition?

You could dream about running a bar on a Mediterranean island (yes, one of my clients went on to do exactly that) but if that's a step too far, you may want to look at re-training or using your professional and personal experience in a new way.

I am committed to helping you find a way forward. Our conversations can create a structure for the changes you want. I understand your lack of confidence, self-doubt, and the fear that can come with change.

I won't judge where you are now, but hope you're willing to consider new ways of thinking and behaving as part of your coaching.

  • Careers
  • Personal goals & ambitions
  • Work-life Balance & Wellbeing
  • Change of Lifestyle

I can offer specialist mentoring for professionals with dyslexia, and mentoring for writers  See Further Information.

HOW I COACH

I recognise that everyone is different.

  • All coaching in planned for you as an individual.
  • I use coaching techniques like active listening, thought-provoking exercises and meaningful conversations. Some of this includes CBT methods of changing your behaviour.
  • Coaching is led by you and I support you without judgement.
  • I don't make choices for you. But I will challenge your beliefs if they hold you back.

BEING A GOOD FIT

Coaching works best when you feel comfortable with your coach. We need to feel we can work together, which is why I offer a free initial discussion.

CLIENTS' COMMENTS

I cannot thank Glynis enough for the coaching I received. The space she held for me (that felt like a total decadence at first!) quickly became a vital channel to allow and enable me to explore my next work steps in the context of the family picture. Glynis rebuilt lost confidence and focused my thinking, encouraging and supporting me to persist and believe in my abilities.
Soon after my coaching concluded, undeterred by the inevitable rejections, thanks to new found belief, I landed my ideal job, testament to this valuable personal investment. Mrs G S

I was in the creative doldrums, wanting to do more designing and making, but lacking a purpose to do so. Glynis helped me to identify what was holding me back and suggested ways to move forward. Since then, with Glynis' support, I have a renewed enthusiasm and new goals. I am looking forward to a creative future.   Mrs C A

I went to see Glynis with a specific goal in mind, without an actual idea how to get there or where to start from. From the very first session, Glynis recognised my strengths and understood where I’d need some more guidance.

I consider myself as a pretty organised, full of energy, positive person with great time keeping. I knew exactly where I wanted to go, but I didn’t know how to get there. Finally, I reached my decision to start a new life, knowing at the back of my mind that I CAN make it happen. Today, a year later, I am divorced from a very dysfunctional marriage. I am feeling happy and no longer walk on egg shells in my day-to-day life. It was very tough decision to make and without Glynis’ help it would have taken me at least another year to reach my end goal. Ms A L

Here's a bit about me.

I've been a coach for 18 years after retraining in midlife. I've coached hundreds of clients both in the UK and overseas.

One of the reasons I work with clients in midlife, especially on careers, is because of my own experience. After many years in education, I moved into coaching and writing (as an author and journalist.) I now focus on career coaching and mentoring writers.

For over 20 years I was in education, as a teacher, starting in secondary schools teaching English to A-level. I added dyslexia training to that and went on to support adults.

I had a long-held ambition to write and wrote two self-help books (parenting and education) which opened a door to journalism. I've written for The Times, Telegraph, Guardian, a range of websites and magazines, and contributed a fortnightly career column for the i newspaper for several years.

One of my clients who had a career change is now a very successful journalist who's written for The Times. I've recently completed my novel (working with my own mentor.)

But that's enough about me.

How about you?

If you think I can help you, whatever you want to change, get in touch for a no-obligation discussion.

OTHER COACHING & MENTORING

I offer two specialist mentoring services.  Mentoring differs slightly from coaching because it does include advice and sharing professional expertise.

DYSLEXIA AND ADHD

If you're dyslexic and are struggling at work or at home, there are strategies to help with whatever you're finding tricky. Together, we can talk through what you find challenging.

MENTORING FOR WRITERS

Coaching for writers. Do you have writing ambitions? Not sure where to start or even believe that you can write? How about some support? You could be a complete beginner, maybe looking at a career change, or professional needing a refresh. As a published author, experienced freelance journalist and an experienced writing coach, I mentor writers with:

  • Novels
  • Non-fiction books
  • Journalism for newsprint, magazines, websites
  • Choosing a literary agent or a publisher
  • Submitting your book to an agent or publisher

Mentoring for Writers

This is where I support you, as a writing coach, to grow your self-belief, focus on what you want to write, discuss your ideas and how to manage your time. If you're a professional writer, or that's your aim, I can advise on the next step.

Mentoring and Feedback

This includes mentoring and also feedback on your writing. It's based on a mix of coaching support, reading your writing and giving feedback. It's also sharing the way that the media works and how you can avoid making the mistakes that all beginners make (as I did.)

Please contact me, preferably by email (or my contact form) to book a time for your initial discussion.
