Wendela Elsen - OpenRabbit Coaching
My name is Wendela Elsen and I am an experienced Life and Career Coach.
It is easy to lose sight of what is really important to you when life is running away with you and you are just trying to keep up with all the responsibilities and challenges that are right in front of you. Life Coaching helps you to stand still, observe and discover; what is going on, is this what I want, what do I need to do to feel happy and fulfilled?
Life coaching can help you start living your life again without being overwhelmed by menopausal symptoms.
The menopause throws a lot of challenges at us. The most well known challenge is the ever inconvenient and unpleasant hot flush. Many of us have them but not everybody, and not in the same severity. But did you know that there more than 150 physical and emotional symptoms of (peri)menopause?! Especially the emotional symptoms are often overlooked or misunderstood. Increased anxiety, irritability, difficulty concentrating, lacking motivation, depression are all emotional symptoms that can creep up on us when we move into perimenopause in our 40s or sometimes even 30s. But there is no need to suffer on your own. Talking about your symptoms is an important first step!
A lot happens when we are in our midlife which I define as age 40 – 60. We are not as fit as we used to be and women go through the dreaded (peri)menopause with all the physical and emotional symptoms that come with it. Our children start to spend more time out of the house on their own or are even moving out. Our career progression starts to diminish and maybe is coming to an end.
At this stage in life you may feel that you have lost sight of your dreams and aspirations, that you are lacking in purpose and are getting little fulfilment out of daily life. Life Coaching can help you find yourself again and help you build a fulfilling next stage of life.
Living with an AS partner
Living with a partner who is affected by Asperger’s Syndrome is challenging, to say the least. The emotional connection with your partner may not be what you expected it to be when you first met and you may feel lonely in the relationship. It is difficult to talk to family and friends about it because they don’t see and understand what goes on behind closed doors. If there are children involved you probably take on the bulk of the parenting responsibility. Your challenge is to look after your own emotional well-being and make sure that you can live a fulfilling life. Life coaching can help you find ways to look after yourself so that you can better face the challenges and feel that you can move forward.
Is your career going in the right direction? Are you motivated; do you go to work with a smile on your face and a spring in your step? Or is something not right? Is the job not challenging enough, too stressful, not meaningful, not fulfilling, are you just not enjoying yourself at work?
If you are unsatisfied with your job, then why is it so hard to make the jump to something else? Sometimes, the things holding us back aren’t our age, level of training or experience, but our own self-doubt. It is always difficult to leave your comfort zone. Is it the right thing to do? Will I be able to do something else? Is it irresponsible? Is it selfish? What will people say?
The truth is, if your job is making you unhappy, you owe yourself the chance to find something better, something more fulfilling.
Career coaching can help you with establishing what it is that matters to you and therefore, what it is that you are looking for in a job. We will never tell you what to do, but we can support you through decision making and give you the time and space to talk about how you’re feeling and understand what your goals are. Whether you want to make a career change but don’t know what, or you already know what you want to do but have no idea how to get there, we can help you to come to the right decision for you and support you in making the initial steps, setting you on your way to a more fulfilling working life.
How does coaching work?
Coaching provides dedicated time and a safe space for you to talk about what is on your mind, whether your focus is on your personal life, on your work or both. Everything discussed during our sessions remains strictly confidential.
In a coaching session we sit down together and identify what inspires you, what gives you energy and motivation. These are the things that we want more of and we will explore how we can achieve them. We will also record the things that hold you back and think of strategies for how to avoid these situations. Ultimately, we want you to feel comfortable that you can achieve your goals. I am passionate about helping you on this journey.
The number of coaching sessions needed differs per person and you decide what your needs are. It could be just a couple of sessions, or up to several months of coaching. Again, you lead the way.
At the end of each session we set homework to do before the next session. This homework varies in time and in format. It could mean making a phone call to get some information relating to your goals or trying out a different approach to a challenging situation.
When are you ready to end our coaching sessions?
- when you are happy and clear about your way ahead;
- when you are confident about the path to achieving your goals;
- when you feel you can manage the challenges on the way;
- when you feel you are in charge of your life.
Training, qualifications & experience
I have 25 years of corporate experience as an HR professional in four different countries (UK, Netherlands, Taiwan, Japan). As an HR Director for a professional services firm I provided business coaching and career coaching to professionals at all levels and advised many on finding the right work-life balance. As an independent coach I have given life coaching to individuals at a point in their lives where they lost focus and needed to rethink their goals. I have worked with many women who wanted to overcome their anxieties and find the confidence to follow their dreams and aspirations.
Apart from my background in business I am also a mother of three teenagers. Over the years there have been occasions when I felt I had to change direction, refocus and find a new purpose. I have always found it very useful to seek the help of a professional coach to guide me towards that next step. I can recommend it!
I have a Masters in Sociology from the University of Amsterdam. I was trained by CTI (The Coaches Training Institute) in 2007 and I had regular coaching training in the international firms I worked with.
Areas of coaching I deal with
Other areas of coaching I deal with
In addition to the above mentioned coaching areas I have a particular interest in working with working young parents, 'empty nesters' and expat-spouses.

I have been a coachee myself at several points in my life and I know that it is important that you feel a good connection with your coach. The relationship has to work. Therefore, I always start with a phone call of up to 30 minutes in which we discuss what you are looking for and how we could work together. This will be free of charge. Once you have decided that you want to go ahead my fees are as follows:
One hour life coaching or career coaching £85
The first session will take 1.5 hours and will be charged at 1.5 x hourly rate. If five sessions are booked at once you will receive five sessions for the price of four.
Coaching sessions can take place at my home office or at a location of your choice (your office or quiet public space). Travel expenses will be charged at cost in case of meetings away from my home office.
