About me

As a Life Coach I recognise the crucial difference between listening to reply and listening to understand.

To do this I may well ask some difficult questions and I may well challenge you on some of your assumptions but this is always in a professional and friendly manner. I will also hold you to account on the changes you commit to making because they will get you where you want to be.

As well as being a Life Coach I'm a qualified Bushcraft Instructor and a big believer in the positive effect of time spent in nature so if you'd like to know more about outdoor coaching please get in touch. More details below.

I’ve spent the last 20 years of my life working with groups and individuals who are all either facing significant challenges in their lives, looking for motivation or wanting to make some significant changes in terms of personal development.

I have met and worked with a great many people who have experienced trauma, anxiety, stress and depression. I’ve also had the opportunity to coach a lot of folk who are struggling to close the gap between where they are now and where they want to be. I've worked with mental health groups, youth groups, offenders and veterans and I also run my own outdoor men's group; Beyond the Mancave.

Containing our emotions, particularly anger and sadness is not always conducive to well-being but it can be significantly easier than talking in about it (ask me how I know this!)

Fortunately there is a growing awareness that confronting and engaging with these feelings through dialogue can be highly effective, far more so than slamming the lid on them and hoping they'll go away.

If you'd like to find out more please get in touch, there is now charge and no obligation for our first discussion.

Training, qualifications & experience

  • International Coaching Federation accredited Diploma in Transformational Life Coaching
  • BSc (Hons) Psychology
  • Institute of Outdoor Learning Bushcraft Instructor

Other areas of coaching I deal with

As well as being a Life Coach I'm a qualified Bushcraft Instructor and a big believer in the positive effect of time spent in nature. This is why I offer outdoor coaching. This can also be combined with an overnight 'wilderness solo' experience.

The solo is a chance to find genuine peace and quiet and a unique opportunity to reflect and process. In essence it involves me setting you up in a semi remote and scenic location where you won't be disturbed. I'll help you set up a shelter to keep you and your gear dry and I'll make sure you have all your essentials.

Then we'll have a talk around what it is you want to focus on during your time alone after which we'll cook dinner and then I'll leave you to it until morning when we'll meet again for breakfast, cooked on the fire. We'll talk about how you got on and where you're up to.

Like I said, this is the solo in essence. If its something you're interested in please get in touch and we can discuss it further.

Further information

Some facts about me:

I live in Scotland in the Trossachs National Park, sometimes known as the Gateway to the Highlands, I have two sons, they are the centre of my world.

I have an ICF accredited Diploma in Transformational Lifecoaching, an Honours degree in Psychology and I’m also a qualified Bushcraft Instructor.

People often say to me ‘Oh Bushcraft, you mean like Bear Grylls?’ I am nothing like Bear Grylls.

I like action movies and I love true life adventure stories which I find very inspiring.

I worked for a year in a correctional boot camp in Arizona. It was extremely challenging. I also travelled, unsupported from Inverness to Glasgow with a folding kayak to raise money for a school in Gambia. That was quite challenging too.

I am the co-inventor of the little known sport of ‘Wheelie Bin Ball’. An honour I share with members of my Glasgow youth group.
