Hello, I’m Shirley and love to help people with their personal ambitions. I can help you to work around barriers to reaching your potential, to help you find clarity and who you want to become.
My clients tend to be busy individuals who would like to add another project to the list. They may want to write a book, complete some education, make a great job of an upcoming presentation or transition in their career somehow. They can be business owners, consultants, coaches, or project managers, maybe even new managers or team leaders in organisations. They also want to avoid stress which can impact on their health, so may put some attention to work-life balance too. Depending on your perspective you might call it business coaching, career coaching or personal development. Coaching is a set of soft skills associated with a philosophical stance; it is the "how" of achieving what you personally want to achieve.
People need to have confidence in who they are, in their ability and in making decisions. Coaching aims to work to a client's strengths. Focusing on weaknesses can highlight drawbacks: creating a feeling of being stuck, such as the clutter of many unfinished projects or lacking career direction. My coaching helps clients to use and unlock the strong abilities they already have to focus the future. Collaborating with a coach can help you feel more confident and encourage working with others to achieve results.
Whether you have a short-term need to overcome a particular issue, or need coaching towards professional development, we will work together to help you achieve more and build better working relationships to support you. All it takes is a phone call or an email for us to discuss what issues you need to resolve and what time you have available. Get in touch today and find a better way.
Personally, I'm interested in the development of soft skills, from building trust in relationships to collaboration and leadership. I have a scientific background but always ended up in an organising role. In later career I enjoyed a variety of roles in management, team leadership and project management. I can bring my experience of project, time, and people-management, though I aim to coach rather than mentor. I've helped a lot of business owners and busy individuals achieve more in less time. I also run a support group for small businesses, so I understand the typical challenges of organisations and businesses.
I favour non-directive coaching that delivers more learning power and helps people come up with the solutions that are right for them. I use a range of coaching methods, whether based in psychodynamics, adult learning, perspective-taking, or neuro-linguistic programming (NLP). I do not use personality profiling because it can give a limited view of someone but am familiar with DISC, Myers Briggs and SDI if you want to share your profile. I do offer motivational maps, which reflect the intentions behind current energy rather than a fixed personality.
I'm also a great believer in collaboration and encourage everyone to learn coach skills. I endorse the view that we should give everyone the chance to lead; and leading includes the ability to coach. Knowing leadership helps us understand the challenges of influencing others and how to get the best from colleagues through collaboration. In helping team leaders with personal development - particularly in soft skills, confidence and self-belief - I primarily offer coaching but can mentor on time/project management and planning issues and facilitate team-working. I also offer coach supervision to relatively new coaches, or managers.
‘Shirley’s main strength is putting different perspectives on things... I would recommend Shirley to people who are looking to change how they see and do things.’ (H.R.)
‘I found Shirley to be very personable and easy to talk to. Her approach was direct but never threatening and I found talking through my thoughts very easy. She was very professional and wasn't scared to ask difficult questions.’ (D.A.)
