Are you tired of giving too much...?

If you keep on trying to create a happily ever after to please others and you've become anxious, you're losing sleep, you're constantly checking your phone for messages from him/her and each day seems like a bigger and bigger challenge, most of your sentences include their name... you might well be experiencing codependency - an overwhelming need to be needed and to control outcomes.  This can show up at work too - finding difficulty in leaving work on time; cancelling important personal appointments; finding it hard to let go of outcomes; neglecting friends... and losing your self-confidence (often we feel as if we never had much of that to begin with!).  Worrying about a person constantly - it can be a family member, a friend, a partner - can begin to take over more and more areas of our lives until there's nothing left for ourselves.  Taking positive footsteps forward - from this stuck place - will begin to redress this balance.

Why work with me?

I bring to sessions a blend of coaching styles and techniques I have learned over the last decade (most recently, therapeutic coaching) which will encourage you to bring forward your true self -  the person who is likely to have become buried under years of people-pleasing, trying to fit in and fix things to make others' lives manageable.. resulting in your own life becoming unmanageable and you no longer know who you are any more.  I also bring lived experience (almost 20 years in recovery) and the ability to keep sessions light and uplifting.  There's a very good chance you'll leave our sessions smiling :)  I have considerable understanding of anxiety and depression and use a number of techniques to alleviate stress.  Most of all, I bring compassion, fun, calm, non-judgement and acceptance to our sessions.  I am DBS checked and hold Enhanced Disclosure Status and adhere to a professional code of ethics.  Confidentiality and anti-discriminatory practice are embedded in my work.

How does it work?

You can send me a text message or email with your availability and, after a brief chat, if you believe I could assist you, we then set up an appointment and payment is made (via PayPal) in advance of the session.  During the session, we chat together and I find out what's important to you and what's getting in the way of the life you'd like to be living.   It might be that you just don't know yet.  Don't worry - things start to become clearer when we begin the work and I'll ask you questions which allow you to think about this and tap into those parts of yourself which have been neglected for too long.  Then we're able to focus in on a topic of your choice each week – areas of your life often neglected as a consequence of giving too much of your energy, time and self to something (a job) or someone (a partner, friend, family member) - and, with the help of various tools and techniques, these areas begin to improve - often in just 2 or 3 sessions.  Living your own life and meeting your own needs is a pretty radical and new idea for anyone who has spent a lifetime putting others' needs before their own.  You'll leave the session with tasks - set by you, for you - allowing you to feel more confident and motivated to bring out the best in you ... whatever shape and form that takes.

When a person gives so much of their time and energy to someone or something and the results they hope for just don’t materialise, she can become frustrated, angry and sometimes depressed.  Attempting to control events – or people – can form part of this behaviour.  You'll learn how to let go, accept, relax...

Letting go of phobias and trauma...

This is where my training in the Human Givens’ technique of clearing and releasing phobias and trauma has proven very worthwhile.  I had been looking for something which could offer more clarity and perhaps break through resistance to change more quickly.  Having witnessed and experienced the technique first-hand, I have found this to be true.

The avoidance patterns, which seem to develop to allow us to cope with a particular addiction, might similarly help us deal with a particular fear. That’s not to say that everyone experiencing a phobia or trauma is addicted to a substance or person. The common ground they seem to share is avoidance - which takes the form of the adjustments we make (big or small) to our everyday lives to counteract a negative or painful feeling. They hold us back and keep us stuck.

With Skype sessions, you don't even need to leave the comfort of your own home.  You don't need to dress up - you don't need to appear on camera.  I've found that, time and time again, speaking without the camera (i.e. hands-free phone call) proves to be extremely liberating for those who worry about their appearance/what others think of them etc.

Therapeutic Recovery Coaching can ease the arduous journey of moving forward and offers you the potential to create a calmer, more confident, authentic and relaxed way of life, free from chaos, confusion, indecision and a feeling of not being good enough.

Skype or phone sessions cost £45 for 60 minutes.  No camera required.

Face-to-face sessions cost £55 and are currently available in Durham and Scottish Borders.
