About us

Hi,  sometimes we need to take some time out to focus on ourselves to work on something that might be holding us back or stopping us from feeling totally fulfilled.  It might be that we are concerned about having a fulfilling retirement after a challenging career and have been avoiding taking the next step to retirement, we might want to achieve a better work-life balance, or we just want some time out to work through a particular issue and come to a decision.   To move forward, it can be helpful to have someone independent to guide us through our thought processes, to listen and to "walk alongside" us.   Coaching can do this for you.

My approach is relaxed, calm and friendly. I am agnostic in the tools and techniques that I use with a focus on building on strengths and values. In particular, I love the outdoors and find getting out and about in the fresh air enables a different perspective freeing the mind and giving you the space and time to think through your own thoughts and solutions to any challenges.

Having had a lengthy leadership career in IT and Telecoms, my coaching has been primarily with IT professionals and leaders, but I work across many sectors and with people from different backgrounds.  I support people with:

  • Managing changes in later life such as finding an "encore career", planning for retirement and all that comes with later life such as "empty nest syndrome",   defining a new identity,  developing new social connections and finding purpose.
  • Managing and planning for return to work, career moves and progressions
  • Managing life transitions such as divorce, separation, children leaving home, changes in relationship dynamics and redundancy.
  • Building confidence and resilience
  • Improving work life balance, managing and preventing stress, overwhelm and burnout
  • Dealing with feelings of work isolation and improving engagement
  • Establishing new habits

Here are some comments from clients that I have worked with recently:

“As someone who had never had any coaching, I was not sure what to expect or even if this was for me. Helen immediately put me at ease and I enjoyed our sessions immensely. She gave me the opportunity to explore and think about aspects of my career in a completely different way. I would highly recommend Helen to anyone who is thinking of coaching, without doubt you will benefit from every session you have” (Laura, Project Manager)

“You have helped me overcome the toughest of professional struggles”. (Neha, Finance Director).

"A coaching session with you is a great experience as you are a good listener and a very nice and kind person.

I really like your ability to make questions in a way that helps me reflect on the things I am talking about and hence, discover new perspectives.

I really appreciate what I would define as your “non-intrusive” and “approachable” style, meaning you make me feel safe and comfortable enough to share my thoughts with you in an open and transparent way, without any kind of fear (of being judged, for example)".   (Francesc,  Senior Manager)

Training, qualifications & experience

After spending more than 33 years in various leadership roles in IT & telecommunications, I engaged in a Leader as Coach course at work and as result I found myself focussing more and more on mentoring and coaching colleagues who were moving into leadership roles or transitioning into a new role.    I found this tremendously rewarding and this inspired me to commit to studying a PGCert in Business and Personal Coaching with Barefoot Coaching and the University of Chester.    Whilst I have worked and work with a variety of clients of all ages and in different environments, and embrace many ways of delivering coaching, my learnings so far have taken me towards a particular interest in working with neurodivergent clients and also towards coaching outdoors (where using the freedom of the outdoor environment opens doors to new thinking).

I am a mother of two grown up sons (who have left home), a dog lover  an enthusiastic hiker and mountain walker, cyclist and traveller, determined golf player and an avid learner of languages.   I also work as volunteer with Solent Mind at the Fareham and Gosport Wellbeing Centre and deliver Wellbeing workshops to Primary School children.

Additional information

Free Introductory Meeting

I offer an initial 45 minute introductory “Discovery” session which is complimentary;  there is absolutely no obligation to progress beyond this. At this session we will discuss what you might want to achieve from coaching, it will be an opportunity for us to get to know each other and to understand if coaching with me is going to be right for you.  If you think that it is then we will agree how you want to take this forward.

All coaching sessions and fees will be tailored to your individual requirements.

Typically, the following fees would apply:

  • Face-to-face sessions: typically from £90 per session (this will depend on the location)
  • Online (Zoom, Teams, Skype) or by telephone: from £70 per session
  • Outdoor Coaching:  from £70 per session.   Location within 30 miles of Southampton but on arrangement and subject to agreement (Hampshire, West Sussex).

A session will normally be 1- 1½ hours duration but will be tailored to meet your requirements.

The overall duration of our coaching relationship will depend on your specific needs.  As an example, what seems to work well for many clients is a series of 6 coaching sessions over a period of 3 to 6 months.  I am happy to work with you on specific requirements and provide a quotation for a complete coaching programme.

There are no hidden costs and fees will include all pre-session preparatory work, post-session email follow up and ad hoc email support between sessions as agreed.    Any fees for the use of online tools where appropriate will be payable and are only used on agreement with you.  Travel time to venue is also included.

You may cancel any session or group of sessions at any time although fees will normally be charged for a session if this is not cancelled with at least 24 hours notice.
