About me

I offer high quality, high impact professional coaching. Partnering with clients from a range of professional backgrounds, I generate an environment for individual growth, purposeful action and sustained performance improvement. By tailoring a variety of coaching models and techniques to meet your individual needs, I can help you to be more aware of your current reality, assist you to explore options available to you, and enable you to decide upon the most effective courses of action. This will support you in building your capabilities in a sustainable way, so that you can achieve short and long term personal, professional and organisational goals.

My Background

I have extensive experience as a leader and as a coach in the education and voluntary sectors both in the UK and internationally, although my practice is not limited to these fields. Having led a range of organisations in very challenging circumstances - including during the current pandemic - I am able to bring this experience to my coaching practice for the benefit of my clients.

What to Expect

I usually begin coaching interventions with diagnostic exercises to facilitate a full understanding of clients’ needs. Coaching sessions typically last around an hour, although this can be tailored to suit your requirements. There are various meeting options: online, at your place of work (dependant on location) or at my office in London N17.

Training, qualifications & experience

I am accredited at Senior Practitioner level with the European Mentoring and Coaching Council having gained a Level 7 Certificate in Executive Coaching and Mentoring with the Institute of Leadership and Management, and a Level 7 Diploma in Professional Consulting with the Chartered Management Institute.

My Experience

I have over 20 years’ experience as a leader and 9 years’ experience as a coach. This includes: leadership roles in a range of challenging environments, from heading a key component of the humanitarian response to the 2010 Haiti earthquake, to managing inner city London schools in some of the most deprived areas of the country; and coaching roles working with middle and senior leaders across a range of organisations including schools, school improvement organisations and within the charitable sector.

Code of Ethics

As a member of the European Mentoring and Coaching Council, I rigorously adhere to their Global Code of Ethics. This widely-used code of conduct regulates the professional practice of all EMCC members and covers the challenging issues and difficult decisions that may be faced in coaching practice. It provides a clear account of what behaviour is considered ethical, correct or right in a range of circumstances.  For further information, please visit https://emccuk.org/Public/Accreditation/Global_Code_of_Ethics.aspx.

Getting to Know Each Other

Before embarking on coaching with a new client, I offer a free 30 minute "harmony session" to ensure that we both have a full understanding of your needs and feel confident that I will be able to successfully support you in achieving your professional goals.

I operate a sliding fee scale depending on whether I'm coaching an individual or a team.  Additionally, factors such as whether clients are paying privately or the sessions are being funded by their place of work will also come into the mix when setting charges. I will be able to propose a fee following our harmony session.

If we decide to proceed, we will agree a clear contract together which will outline expectations in terms of our working relationship.  There is no minimum or maximum number of sessions required; this will be led by each client’s individual needs and can be reviewed on an ongoing basis.

Monday Tuesday Wednesday Thursday Friday Saturday Sunday

I can see clients Monday - Friday between 5pm and 9pm, and on Saturdays and Sundays between 10am and 4pm.

Feedback and Testimonials

At the end of each coaching session I will ask you to provide feedback on what you felt went well, and what could be improved.  In this way, together we can ensure that the coaching develops in the best way possible for you.

When our coaching contract finishes, I will ask you to complete a short survey to help me to develop as a lifelong learner.

The following testimonials have been provided by recent clients:

“Coaching has been very beneficial for me during these sessions. Firstly, I was unsure with my first goal exactly what I wanted to focus on as it seemed like a broad topic. Paul helped me to refine this and come up with practical ideas to move forward with, a mixture of short- and long-term ideas which did not feel unmanageable.  Secondly, coaching my next goal enabled me to consider how I would manage a significant life event that I would not have fully thought through if it were not for the coaching. I now feel as though I have a secure plan with some practical actions which will help me to navigate this time successfully.  I thoroughly enjoyed the process of not only talking through the realities of my current situation in relation to both goals, but coming away with actions which are appropriate for me and came from me, with the help of the coach.”

Charlotte, Deputy Head Teacher, April 2021

“The coaching helped me enormously in preparing to start a new job, equipping me with a set of principles and practical actions that made me much more confident and able to distinguish between what mattered and what didn’t. Ultimately, the tools I gained through coaching supported my decision to leave the job after 3 months, making this more straightforward and positive than it would otherwise have been. And then through the coaching I was able to process some areas self-doubt that had been generated by my experiences in this job and face the future with a positive outlook. I have had a few executive coaches in the past and this was my best experience of coaching so far because it was so well-structured and practical.”

Anne, Executive Leader in the charitable sector, May 2021

“The coaching with Paul has helped me to focus on key areas to address, then clarify how to address them with a clear plan. It has given me the space to clarify my own thinking and generated actions that I feel ownership of.”

James, CEO of a school improvement body, May 2021
