I came to coaching from a nursing background. Most of my clinical experience has been gained in the Armed Forces as a Nursing Officer. When I retired from the Army I returned to work in the NHS.
My work in the NHS has been purely clinical, whereas in the military there was equal emphasis on training and development of individuals and teams. Being a coach has enabled me to integrate these two areas into an holistic package.
My professional background and life experience enable me to interact sensitively with clients on an individual basis. I have continued to enhance my knowledge and skills by further training courses in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy and Interpersonal Psychotherapy.
As the focus is on Health & Wellbeing, my Registered Nursing experience gives me an in-depth understanding of the underpinning science of health. The holistic relationship between the Bio-Psycho-Social aspects of life inform my coaching practice. I will facilitate positive and sustainable changes that support optimal health. These will include: physical activity, nutrition, weight and stress management/emotional regulation that enhances life satisfaction.
Working in the field of occupational mental health has given me an interest in organisations and the psychological effect they have on the individuals within them. I am able to develop teams in order to enhance the wellbeing of individuals and ultimately increase productivity.

Areas of coaching I deal with
Other areas of coaching I deal with
As an Armed Forces veteran I have an interest in the psychology of war; that is how it affects the men and women who experience it. I am passionate about helping the veteran's community. It is my belief that our experiences imbue resilience and by focussing this we are able to overcome all manner of obstacles. Sometimes, in the role transition between serviceman/woman and civilian, we lose sight of our unique qualities. I will help you refocus and move forward in whatever sphere of life you choose.

Coaching and what to expect:
Several quotes from Sir John Whitmore illustrate what coaching is:
- Coaching focusses on future possibilities, not past mistakes.
- Coaching is unlocking people’s potential to maximise their own performance.
- About a journey and nothing about instruction or teaching.
The [client] does acquire facts & develops new skills & behaviours…by discovering from within…
We will focus on goals and these usually fall into four broad categories:
- Practical Goals: Lose weight, get a job, learn a language.
- Having Goals: Dream home, car, owning a racehorse etc.
- Being Goals: Quality of how you are as a person; confident, calm, peace of mind.
- Decision Goals: Should I resign to pursue my dream? Or should I accept the offer?
These examples are by no means exhaustive; Coaching is about you and helping you reach your goals, realise your potential and achieve your ambitions. This will be done through a supportive process of questions. I work on the premise that you have all the answers and therefore there are no “right” or “wrong” answers.
I look forward to working with you.
