NB Coaching and Mentoring - Nicola Bowyer
Through 1-2-1 career and personal development coaching, I support people to find a better way to operate both at home and at work.
My clients have worked hard throughout their 20s and 30s to build successful careers and fulfilling personal lives. As they navigate the responsibilities of work, home, family and friends they often beat themselves up for not having enough time to do a better job, be a better friend, parent, partner, read that book, get out in the fresh air more.
Lurking in the background is that nagging feeling that they need to make a change, that there’s a better way to operate in life.

Word of the week: balance - https://www.nbcoachingandmentoring.co.uk/blog/word-of-the-week-balance
Specific issues that have led my clients to coach include:
- Promotion opportunities
- Difficult relationships
- Dissatisfaction with being single
- Dissatisfaction with the current role
- Lack of confidence/self-esteem
- Increasing commitments outside of work
- Lack of fulfilment
- Work/life balance
- Career change
- The sense that there's never enough time
As your coach, I will create a safe space for you to think in order to create deeper awareness of what motivates and drives you and how you want to live your life – either at home or work. Whilst our focus may start with your personal life or career our work will touch on both as what we do in one area affects the other.
We’ll do this by taking a step back from everything around you to understand:
- what's working for you, what's not and where you want to make change
- your core values, how you are honoring those in your work and personal life and use them to guide decision making and sense check motivation for the goals that you set.
I will provide you with support to generate ideas, break down barriers and make the changes necessary to live a life that you're enjoying.
Our last coaching session will review all that you have learned and how you can sustain the great work you’ve achieved.
My coaching style is collaborative and grounded in the belief that you are the expert in your personal and work life and have the resources to make a change. I combine warmth, humor, pragmatism and energy with a direct approach.
I offer all clients a free 45-60 minute coffee/Zoom call to understand what brings them to coaching and for us to jointly decide whether working together is right for them.

Coaching and Mentoring: Having trained in 2010 I've worked with people from a variety of sectors including Professional Services, Retail, Finance, Tech, PR and Comms and Not for Profit. As well as coaching executives, I established Coaching Carers to support unpaid carers via coaching and worked with Business in the Community (BITC) on their coaching programme - Ready for Work – coaching homeless clients into work. I collaborated with BITC to introduce the Ready for Work coaching model to other organisations working in the homeless sector. In addition, I led on KPMG's Mentoring programme which included training mentors.
Business: I’ve built a successful career in the Big 4 and not for profit sector working with, and coaching, senior leaders to deliver organisational change. Throughout career have built and led high performing teams.
Balancing Life and Career: As a single mother of three children I created a career for myself in the City whilst also volunteering and studying so I understand the demands of balancing career with parenthood, whilst trying to carve out a little time for myself.
Making Big Life/Career Decisions: In the last five years I’ve been presented with three opportunities - all meant making tough decisions. I walked away from a promotion path to Director at KPMG in order to follow my husband to Australia. On my career break I threw myself into something new and took on a Strategy and Operations Director role in the NFP sector. I then returned to London to take on a Chief of Staff role for KPMG to then two years later turning it all on its head to do what I love – coaching, but this time full time.
I walk the talk: I’ve been coached at three different stages of my life and am a member of the International Coach Federation (ICF) and adhere to their code of ethics which includes being committed to continual professional development and coaching supervision.

"Through a series of coaching sessions, Nicola has helped me to focus on what I really enjoy in work, what I am good at and what values are important to me in the organisation I work for and in the people I work with. I have been able to put in place a clear plan of action on how I want to focus my future work effort and how I want to grow and develop my role. Nicola was fantastic at listening to me, interpreting my rambles and holding me to account for the things which I said I wanted to achieve through the coaching." Sarah, Director, KPMG
"Going into coaching I had a positive, open minded & curious attitude. Nic thoroughly explained how the coaching would work, and made me feel at ease immediately. Nic provided a safe space for me to open up & I really enjoyed that I was accountable to making changes we discussed in each session. It wasn’t just talking about I feel; we delved deeper into why I felt/behaved like I did, and put processes & actions in place to move things forward.
The sessions were initially focused around dating, and I could see differences in my outlook, my attitude and my behaviour from the first session. Having ‘homework’ gave me purpose, and held me accountable to make the changes I needed to make. I had a breakthrough in the second session, and I came away from that feeling like a HUGE weight had been lifted, because I was empowered to take measurable action, rationalise feelings, and put boundaries in place for behaviour I had been accepted from others.
At the same time I started the sessions I started a new job. My dream job. However, I found myself out of my comfort zone & worrying that I wasn’t good enough, or I would mess up. I learnt how to rationalise my concerns, and realise that a lot of my uncomfortableness was, in fact, because it was a new role, not because I was incompetent. I feel more relaxed at work, which is empowering me to make the impact I desire." Lauren, Head of Brand Advocacy, Made.Com
"Working with Nicola was an insightful process; she is able to quickly apply new and interesting challenges to stimulate the mind and old habits which in turn can have a powerful impact both in the professional and personal space. Nicola is intelligent, patient and creative so I would encourage anyone to carve out some time to work with Nicola as a life coach." Vikki, Chelmsford/London
"I went along for coaching sessions with Nicola with no real expectation of what to expect but knowing that it was something that could only be beneficial to me having been single for a number of years. I wanted to get to the bottom of why I was struggling to have a relationship. I had some really interesting realisations that have now given me some further self development work, that I know will only be extremely beneficial to me. Nikki was so supportive in every session with no judgement and helped me really get to the bottom of my issues." Amanda, Communications Specialist, HSBC
