About me

September can be about new terms and beginnings for us too. Got your dreams, packed lunch and best hopes at the ready!?

Hi! I am Melanie Faulks. Helping you transform life, work and wellbeing  - especially if you're managing anxiety, depression, a physical health condition/disability or neurodiversity (i.e. Dyslexia) alongside! What's your potential and when are you planning on reaching for it? I'm a Work Psychologist, Life & Wellbeing Coach and #FreshAirFridays Facilitator based in Newport, Wales.

Coaching is all about being and feeling the best you can be and achieving in life what you really hoped for - and it's for anyone! Anyone who wants to make changes to, or make progress with, a particular area(s) of their life. It is also for people who may have started already but have become stuck or stalled.

And if you don't know where to start, I can help with that too!

I provide 1-1 coaching (Solution Focused, Cognitive Behavioural, Mindful & NLP) and outdoor group sessions. I've been coaching for over 15 years and also have personal experience of working with a coach.

My 'How I Can Help You' video is in my profile below.

Outdoor group wellbeing sessions - #FreshAirFridays in Newport

Stop, relax, recharge and explore how to create the life you want - and all whilst being outdoors in glorious nature! First Friday of every month at the RSPB Wetlands Nature Reserve and coastal path.

Each group session has regular segments plus a different wellbeing related conversation theme each month. Booking is required to participate and all you need to bring along is yourself and a flask of hot water for the tea break. Come along and see what we do for yourself! Your first time is FREE.

"I stayed chilled for days." Dany

"It's all about wellbeing and my thinking becomes clearer too." Elizabeth

"Melanie has a very warm and gentle manner, and created a safe space for each of us to feel listened to and supported on her Fresh Air Fridays session." Maxine

1-1 coaching

Is your life the best it can be? ...or not quite yet?

Let's take a step out for a moment and consider your current situation. Let's look at what you need and want. Or start exploring what you think you need or want. What do you want to hear? From me? From yourself? Let's turn things around (even upside-down!), challenge the status quo (includes you!) and reveal your preferred future. What do you see? How does it feel?

And what will you do?

As change requires action as well as thinking and creativity, I'll help you to establish new or clearer goals and together we'll determine how best you're going to move forwards and accomplish them. How do you like the sound of personal, inspiring and effective action plans?

As you then work on these, I provide encouragement, congratulations, accountability and a sounding board. We'll assess progress, view all the learnings and you will receive impartial non-judgemental (but sometimes gently challenging!) feedback. I assist you to address any setbacks and practical obstacles too.

I'm a Solution Focused, Cognitive Behavioural, Mindful and NLP coach. This means I can also help you overcome those psychological obstacles (unhelpful and hampering thoughts, feelings and behaviours) that we often encounter along the way to achievement and success.

Your new thinking and planning partner awaits...!

Training, qualifications & experience

At 29, I started studying for a BSc Honours in Psychology. Three years later, I gained a First and across the next few years:

  • Post Graduate Certificate in Mental Health
  • Mental Health First Aid
  • Certificate in Occupational Testing
  • Brief Psychological Interventions
  • Certificate in Coaching (approved by the British Psychological Society)
  • MSc in Occupational Psychology
  • NLP (Neuro-linguistic Programming) Coach

I had already enjoyed courses in the Solution Focused, Cognitive Behavioural and Motivational Interviewing approaches and at 41, I started planning for what has now become Agdela Coaching.

My clients' goals and action plans have ranged from condition management and life fulfilment to finding and/or succeeding in the workplace. My research has centred on exploring the successful return to work journeys of people who were previously on long term sick leave

I've worked with private clients, employers and organisations such as Macmillan Professionals, housing associations, Shaw Trust, DWP Jobcentre Plus, Rethink Mental Illness and NHS Primary Care.

I keep up to date with the evolving world of coaching and Positive Psychology and subscribe to my own self-reflection and practice development (via 1-1 professional coaching supervision and group peer practice). I evaluate my services with clients via ongoing review and post-coaching questionnaire.

Not all but many of my clients have been people managing anxiety, depression, a physical health condition/disability or neurodiversity (i.e. Dyslexia) alongside life and work. Coaching is not a substitute for counselling, other talking therapies or professional supervision (as in Health and Social Care, Counselling & Coaching). They can run alongside each other if appropriate to do so.

I look forward to meeting you!

I am a member of The British Psychological Society's (BPS) Division of Occupational Psychology, the BPS Special Group in Coaching (SGCP), The Association of Coaching, Fresh Air Fridays Facilitators and hold Professional Indemnity Insurance.

  • How I can help with wellbeing, life and work - Agdela Coaching & Newport #FreshAirFridays.

For 1-1 coaching, choose from outdoor coaching (alongside glorious nature!), coffee lounge coaching (in pre-selected and comfortable venues) and private room coaching. For private sessions, I use the comfortable meeting rooms at Wellbeing Solutions, Newport and R&R Consulting Centre, Cardiff.

1-1 coaching and 12 week Fresh Air Fridays via an invoice to a company / employer / service provider is negotiated separately.

My no-obligation coaching taster session/chemistry meeting:

I believe that all coaching should begin with a NO OBLIGATION face-to-face coaching taster so this is the first step in all my services. I introduce coaching and you tell me about your needs, hopes, aspirations and knowledge of coaching. All in confidence of course.

The quality of the relationship between you and your coach is important to the success of the coaching programme.

If, after chatting, we think we can work well together and meet each other's expectations, then we'll start looking at your anticipated coaching programme.

This includes the purpose of the coaching, outcome measures, anticipated location and frequency of our meetings, roles and responsibilities, confidentiality, between session support, payment method, cancellation policy, how to address any arising issues and service evaluation.

1-1 coaching:

Pay As You Go coaching sessions: £100 (1 hour) & £200 (2 hours)

One year coaching partnership: £4,800 (2 one-year clients only at any one time)

NEW! Telephone coaching sessions: £60 (1 hour)

Payment & cancellation terms:

Payment in advance of sessions is required and accepted via Bank Transfer and monthly Standing Order. I operate a 48 hour cancellation policy. Companies, employers and service providers are invoiced after coaching sessions with 30 day payment terms.

Payment in advance of a PAYG session is required and accepted via Bank Transfer. Monthly standing order is accepted for 1-1 coaching partnerships and Fresh Air Fridays membership installments. 30 day payment terms for invoices to companies, employers or service providers.
