Justine Curlis | MBCT for Stress Reduction & Burnout Recovery
What I do:
I'm Justine, a mindfulness coach specialising in stress reduction and burnout recovery. I help those of you who feel stressed out, overwhelmed and exhausted get back to balance and stay there.
I became a coach after overcoming my own experience of stress and burnout as a teacher so I understand the impact these are having on both your mental and physical wellbeing right now.
After leaving teaching, I retrained in Rational Emotive Behavioural Therapy and Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy under the instruction of Professor Windy Dryden and Dr Patrizia Collard, two of the UK's leading experts in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy and Mindfulness.
In my mindfulness-based coaching programmes, I've put together the best of what I've learnt from experts in my field, what's worked best for me in my own recovery and what is empirically supported by research to help you recover from stress and burnout too.
- 8 Week MBCT (Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy) Course: ideal for those who are looking to learn mindfulness in-depth to aid stress reduction.
- Flexible MBCC (Mindfulness Based Cognitive Coaching): ideal for those have an emotional block preventing them from acheiving a specific goal.
- Mindfulness Meditation Mentoring: ideal for those who have an interest in learning mindfulness meditation to support their general wellbeing or who aren't able to commit to a course of coaching.
How we work together:
Sessions are taught face to face in my private coaching room in Wanborough, a small village nestled between Puttenham and Normandy in the Surrey Hills and just 6km west of Guildford. For clients who live further afield in the UK or overseas, or who are unable to travel, this course can also be taught online via Skype.
Through a combination meditation, reflection exercises and discussion you will build awareness and gain greater insight into how stress manifests for you, what feeds it and how to release yourself from its grip.
You will learn how to take care of yourself during times of stress, achieving a greater sense of self efficacy during periods of difficulty.
To enjoy the full stress reduction benefit that mindfulness can bring, it is strongly recommended that you practice these meditations between sessions, along with other informal mindfulness practices and short pieces of reading.

"The mindfulness course I did with Justine opened up a whole new world about the power of our minds and how anxiety and stress had taken over my life. I particularly benefited from managing rumination by changing old thinking habits and coming to the awareness of how beneficial it is to return to the present moment. The course made me aware that my life was slipping past me and I was unaware of what was going on around me in the here and now and the course taught me how to manage this. I would highly recommend anyone to Justine's courses as I have found them life changing." Patrick - Surrey
"My work with Justine was aimed at reducing my stress levels and my understanding of the choices I have to create a better quality of life especially with all the personal problems I was encountering. Justine shared with me the tools and techniques that enabled me to stay calm, focuses and balanced. I also received videos and work sheets via email
What I appreciated most about working with Justine was her patience, understanding and positivity. After each session I felt any negativity melt away, my confidence and clarity restored, giving me the strength to face life's difficult challenges." Paul - Surrey
"Justine is unique in her gentle and empathetic approach and sees the human being beyond the mask. Intuitively, she understands each of our traits and personalities and works with you. Justine does not teach by rote, she guides you lovingly into a practise that suits your lifestyle. Justine is proactive and always finds time to delve and investigate the difficulties you are sure to face in the re-training of your mind’s habits." Caroline- Surrey
"When I first started mindfulness practise with Justine I was quickly struck by the things I had been missing - I had been so self contained in my thoughts and worries that I hadn’t noticed what was around me. For me, mindfulness helps me to connect with what is actually happening: the sights, sounds and smells instead of concentrating on the things that could be going wrong or what my mind is telling me to be fearful of. Making sure I take some time out, even if it’s only a few minutes a day, just to focus on my breath or my sensory experiences, really helps me to stay grounded in the present instead of engaging with the things that bother me." Paul - Surrey
"I joined Justine’s course at a time of great upheaval in my life. The programme gave me the skills to deal with difficult times by using mindfulness to still my racing mind. It also gave me a structure and focus each day to help me deal with the bad times and appreciate the good. The optional monthly meet ups are a great way to keep up the momentum." Sarah - Surrey
"It has been just under a year since I did the 8 week mindfulness course and my life has changed immeasurably. My life had become too hectic to handle and, with little time at my disposal, I initially found the daily practice difficult to commit to. I'm very glad I persevered as something clicked and now mindfulness is as natural as endless thinking was before! Because of this, my clear thinking has led me to make more positive and considered choices for myself. I would wholeheartedly recommend Justine Curlis as your tutor as she is gentle in her approach and solid in her teaching." Rowena - Surrey
"If, like me, you are coming to mindfulness from a difficult place you could not wish for a more caring, empathetic coach than Justine. She took time to check my stress levels before the eight-week programme even started. She was a patient and open-minded teacher of the awareness-raising meditation practices during it. And the regular meet-ups she arranges after the course is over shows her continuing commitment to those lucky enough to have had her as a guide." Daniel - Surrey
