John Hoey. MA FCMI (Management & Interview Coach)
Prior to becoming a professional management and interview coach, I was fortunate to have an incredible 30-year career in the Fire & Rescue Service, having achieved the rank of Assistant Chief Fire Officer, Director of Human Resources & Learning & Development with one of the largest Fire Services in the country.
In addition to my coaching business I also work as a lecturer delivering Leadership & Management qualifications.
Located in East Kilbride, South Lanarkshire, I am a Member of the Association for Coaching (MAC) and hold the ‘Advanced Certificate in Coaching Practice’ qualification. My management and other qualifications are listed below.
My Coaching Expertise
I focus on the provision of two services, 'Management Development' and 'Interview Coaching'
It often takes years of studying, gaining qualifications and learning from mistakes to become a highly effective manager, as your management coach I can help you compress that time-frame, often achieving in months, a level of competence that would normally take years.
I provide management coaching because I have tons of empathy with managers, I understand the pressures that you endure, I have been there and made the mistakes, I have years of practical management experience up to executive director level along with a wealth of academic qualifications and a deep understanding of how to practically apply management and leadership theory.
If your new to management, feeling stuck in the middle or working at strategic level I can help you develop and excel.
Some of the common areas that I help managers with include:
- Understanding Leadership
- Building an Effective Team.
- Building your management resilience.
- Managing difficult people and conflict.
- Discipline & Grievance processes.
- Managing under-performing people.
- How to work with your boss.
- Making theory work in practice.
Are you in the process of applying for a new job or have you been invited to interview? If you are then I can help you get that job through 1-2-1 coaching.
HR Professionals have a structured and clearly developed approach to recruitment and selection of employees, they are required to by employment legislation and the demands of the employment market. If you understand this structure, then you are off to a flying start.
Everything you need to get that job is provided for you. In fact so much of it that its difficult to see the wood from the trees, the job advert, the job description, the application form, the person specification, the company values, who you report to what you will be responsible for and more!
The Key to an effective interview performance is 'Preparation' and 'Practice'. To that end my services include.
- An Analyses of the Job Description and Person Specification for your potential job.
- Identification of your personal experiences suitable for Interview Answers.
- A template and structure for Competence Based Questions, including the STARR model.
- How to Answer the Top Ten General Questions.
- Presentation Techniques, body language and congruence.
- Practice Sessions answering questions.
Your first session lasts for 90 minutes and includes an in depth presentation on interview techniques, you are also provided with a 25 page PDF on how to answer the top ten questions and templates for writing your own competence based answers. Following this first session you start to create your answers and return for practice sessions. These practice sessions are where your deep learning and improved performance happens.
Coaching sessions are private and confidential and are mostly run in a small comfortable room within my family home in East Kilbride.
Some of my clients prefer that I come to them and I am happy to run sessions in your home or work or other location, as long as we have some privacy and its comfortable and safe for you.
Call or email today and we can get started by discussing your specific needs and creating your coaching plan.
