Joe Cohen, Qualified & Accredited Coach
As a qualified psychological coach I work in the service of my clients for improved mental well-being and performance in personal life and work. My approach is underpinned by models of coaching grounded in established adult learning and psychological frameworks.
My initial aim is to gain clarity of the issues being presented for coaching by each client, along with clearly understanding the clients coaching goals. In a safe and secure environment we then work together to achieve these goals.
To help provide some context, below are a number of coaching issues that I have successfully worked through with clients:
- Feelings of being overwhelmed (at work/in life)
- Managing challenging relationships effectively
- How to create and embody an effective work/life balance
- Getting back into work after an extended period of time
- Overcoming a sense of lack (i.e. confidence) and developing an authentic sense of possibility
- How to live a more abundant life
- Honouring values in work and life
- How to find purpose and meaning in life
- Gaining greater mastery over thoughts and behaviours that are felt as limiting
- How to control the 'to do' list and inquiring into its perceived value
- Challenging negative assumptions about self
- Creating techniques for effective stress management
- Learning to be more compassionate and loving to self
- Meeting the challenges associated with management (i.e. new promotion)
- What it takes to be a good and effective leader
- Developing skills for improved communication with colleagues
- How to improve sales/business performance
- Developing greater self-awareness for improved decision making
Courage is a vital ingredient required for clients commencing the adult learning process. Throughout the coaching relationship I remind clients to celebrate the small steps of achievement along their own path of learning. In my experience, these small steps can eventually combine into a single giant leap which is often felt as a transformative shift in understanding.
I am an ethically minded practitioner, undertaking regular CPD, supervision, holding Professional Civil Liability Insurance and retaining accreditation with the British Psychological Society.
How we start
I invite potential client's to make contact with me via email. We will then arrange a convenient time for a phone call, where we will have a relaxed, confidential conversation. It provides an opportunity for you to share the issues you would like to bring to coaching in more detail and ask any questions. There is no charge for this initial phone conversation.
Training, qualifications & experience
Master of Arts in Psychological Coaching, Metanoia Institute:
This qualification allows me to work with clients at a deep psychological level. It avoids the 'one size fits all' approach, in that there are a broad set of learning interventions and techniques available for clients to develop new skills and ways of being.
NEO PI - R Personality Inventory (Psychometric Assessment)
As a qualified practitioner for the NEO PI-R, I can undertake psychometric assessments for coaching clients. In my experience the assessment can help with understanding more about your typical or preferred style of going about things, such as how you prefer to interact with other people, how you typically think and feel about things, your typical process of arriving at decisions, and your typical approach to making things happen. When completed honestly and openly, the results allow you to gain insight into the sorts of environments and tasks that most suit your personality – and therefore, in which you are most likely to succeed.
It is internationally recognised as the ‘gold standard’ instrument with which to measure personality. The qualification is accredited and verified by the British Psychological Society (BPS), as well as being internationally recognised and aligned with the standards of competence defined by the European Federation of Psychologists’ Associations (EFPA).

For over ten years I have had a private coaching practice for individuals. I love working with private clients and in particular those that present challenging briefs.
Business and executive coaching for corporate clients, including: Taylor Wessing LLP, Regus, World Club Travel, Fiduciary Settlements LLP, Naked Ideas , Hot Pickle.
Executive coaching contracts with corporate clients have included: working with senior talent for improved performance, developing confidence and skills of line managers and leadership development with senior partners.
I have also worked with over 100 coaching clients within the civil service. Providing psychometric assessments, developing talent/leaders and for one on one coaching sessions with clients that work in challenging, high performance environments.
I am experienced at working with clients that are presenting symptoms of stress. Primary goals include assessing well being of clients, building self awareness around the symptoms and impact of stress, creating appropriate techniques for improved well being and mental toughness.
Joe's commitment to an individual approach has enabled the building of rapport and trust with civil servants, which is difficult to achieve in such a sensitive and discreet environment. Joe has an ability to find people 'where they are' and to encourage and inspire self reflection that ultimately supports our teams to mitigate their experience of stress and encourage development.
Dr Isabel Roberts, Managing Director, Prompt UK Ltd
Upon hearing positive feedback from work colleagues I decided to give coaching with Joe a go. We worked collaboratively with the aim of gaining a better understanding of my role in managing challenging relationships at work. After six months coaching, the results were proven in my promotion by the board to group programme director.
Warwick, Programme Director, Regus
Joe helped me rebuild my confidence and improve my personal relationships. As a direct result of the work that we did together I was able to regain my confidence and approach interviews on my terms, by understanding my strengths and myself better. I am now in a role that I enjoy getting up for. More importantly my relationship with my family improves the more I understand their needs as well as my own.
