Until recently, I worked as a registered Mental Health Nurse within the NHS for over 30 years both as a clinician and a Senior Manager. This gave me the wonderful opportunity to coach and mentor staff in reaching their career and leadership dreams over many years. I am now bringing this experience to the world of life coaching and would love to help you to reach your full potential.

When I am not working, I love to travel to exotic and far flung lands. I adore walking along the beach every day listening to the waves and feeling the sand beneath my feet. However, I can most often be found curled up on a sofa reading a good book.

Fiona Kilburn Coaching

Coaching is a safe, facilitated and supportive space where you will have time to think, identify choices, find your own solutions, develop your skills, challenge negative thoughts, behaviours or attitudes, face your fears, raise self-awareness and improve your self-confidence.

I believe that everyone is resourceful and am certain that with time and the right support everyone can make positive changes to their lives.  As a life coach, it is my role to help you to develop your resourcefulness through active listening, skilled questioning, gentle challenge, encouragement and support.  You are the expert in you so your solutions will always be best for you.  I will not advise you or solve your problems but whatever you want to achieve, we will work together as equals to make your dreams come true.

Let's have a free Taster Conversation

Finding the right Life Coach for you is important. I encourage anyone who is thinking about trying Life Coaching to engage in a free initial coaching conversation with me.  This way we can work out if coaching is likely to be helpful for you and if we feel that we can work together.  This conversation can last up to twenty minutes and can be carried out in a variety of ways including face-to-face, phone call or video call.  The benefits of the latter are that you don’t have to travel and you can remain in the comfort and convenience of your own home whilst we chat.

During the free taster session we will look at:

  • What life coaching is all about and how it can help you find new ways forward.
  • Where you are now and the challenges you would like to tackle
  • A brief exploration on something you would like to work on
  • How I work as a coach and whether my approach suites you

Coaching Sessions

The number of sessions you will need depends on you and what your are aiming to achieve via coaching. Each session usually lasts for an hour. We will agree at the end of each session when and if we need to meet next. This will be based on the objectives that you set yourself. Usually initial sessions are more frequent, building to less frequent sessions as you start to achieve your goals. You are always in charge of the number of sessions based on what you feel you need.

Each coaching session can be done by whatever communication method you choose.  I have a comfortable office space within my house in Whitley Bay or we can meet at a mutually convenient, neutral location within Tyne & Wear, Durham or Northumberland localities.

Training, qualifications & experience

I am passionate about coaching,  I first came to coaching when I felt stuck within my work role, lacking in self-confidence and unsure of what to do next.  Through coaching I was able to develop a plan that allowed me to clarify my vision and understand what steps I needed to take. I never looked back.

This led me to train as a coach working within the NHS which gave me the opportunity to coach lots of people.  I love watching them move from feeling negative and stuck to feeling energised and motivated, identifying their plan, putting it into action and experiencing that great feeling of success and purpose.

I obtained a Masters Degree in Leadership and Change and a Level 5 Certificate in Coaching and Mentoring via the Institute of Leadership and Management. I am a member of the Associate of Coaching and receive regular supervision from a qualified coaching supervisor to ensure that I am continually developing my coaching skills.

Further information

Rebecca recommends Fiona Kilburn Coaching.
20 Jan 2020
"I enquired about coaching at a time when I realised I needed some support outside of my usual network, and when I recognised that I needed more than just advice or guidance about how to ‘do’ something. I felt that I was losing some of my sense of self and my confidence, when faced with some professional demands and conflicts. Coaching from Fiona allowed me to re-establish my priorities, think clearly about my ambitions and helped me set realistic goals to achieve. Fiona was patient and able to compassionately listen, she made coaching session’s relaxed, easy going and often injected some comforting humour!

Whilst I usually lean toward being more reserved, Fiona set the tone for open discussion and welcomed me to speak more freely. This was particularly helpful as it encouraged conversations which before had felt difficult. Without Fiona’s approach some of these important conversations may have otherwise been avoided. Fiona was helpfully realistic, but optimistic guiding me through coaching, and her extensive knowledge and experience of both professional background and coaching was always apparent.

Fiona understood what I wanted to achieve but most importantly helped me relate to feelings which were getting in the way of me moving forward. She listened to my experience of these and was able to help me make sense of their impact. Fiona enabled me to reflect on my individual characteristics and helped me to think about how these interact with my environment and my approach to work and others. This was the most valuable part of coaching for me.

Coaching enabled me to reflect but also challenged me to do things differently. Fiona kept me on track with progressing towards my goals and provided a continued supportive motivation. Fiona has allowed me to overcome practical obstacles, but most importantly she has enabled me to think more positively about my personal attributes and has given me overall improved confidence.

Coaching with Fiona has been an invaluable experience and I would highly recommend her to others."
