About me

Have you ever asked yourself these questions?

1.      Do my employees have an incredible work experience that I’m truly proud of?

2.      Am I an inspirational leader, and I am surrounded by the same?

3.      Should I ask for expert help?

If you’ve asked these questions, I’d love to have a conversation with you as I can certainly help.

I am a leader, executive coach, mentor, and business consultant with almost 30 years lived experience using a people first leadership approach in some of the world's most innovative and influential brands. Having worked in senior leadership roles for The Body Shop, Nike, and Peloton, I have vast experience of leading large-scale and start up teams across multiple countries, cultures and languages throughout Europe and the world. In my time with these organisations, I have developed my passion for service and people, which comes together perfectly in the work I’m now undertaking as a leadership, business, and personal coach.

Darren the Leader

As an expert in leading remotely I have grown a reputation for being an inspirational leader, creating togetherness, loyalty, and pride while forming a safe environment in which everyone can thrive. Having gone through my own leadership journey, making lots of mistakes along the way, I’ve developed a critical self-awareness. I’ve worked through my own fears and learned to manage with courage. Importantly, I never believe I’m the smartest person in the room. By understanding and sharing my own core values and the connected behaviours I’ve learned the key to inspirational leadership comes down to 6 simple steps we can all learn.  I call these my 6 Clicks to Inspirational Leadership.

These are:

1.     Have the consumer and the employee at the heart of everything you do.

2.     Get clear on your values and the connected behaviours.

3.     Communicate, check understanding and follow up.

4.     Catch people doing things right.

5.     Never think you’re the smartest person in the room.

6.     Lead with courage.

Darren the Coach/Mentor

I help today’s leaders to develop an acute self-awareness, overcoming their own fears and learning to inspire and motivate teams authentically and consistently. Shifting to remote working means quickly adapting and learning how to trust, engage and inspire from a distance. I am working with organisations and their leaders to develop the skills to lead through change, create engagement and inclusion and develop high performing teams. I work with senior leaders and their direct reports, using a blend of training and coaching, to build a culture of inspirational leadership that starts at the top and cascades throughout the organisation. By developing exceptional inspiring leaders, unafraid of open dialogue and equipped to lead with courage, I believe organisations can overcome many of today’s challenges in a cost-effective way. Particularly in retaining top talent and leaders of the future.

Testimonials

I found Darren to be extremely personable and warm, so easy to talk to. We were able to work together and narrow down priorities, as well as come up with some practical tools to apply when I needed. He was able to help me put things into perspective and making it simple really made me see clear in terms of goals and career advice.

HR Vice President – Global Asset Management Firm

Darren has worked with me as both a mentor and a coach. Throughout our sessions he’s helped me identify my core leadership values, navigate a business re-org for my team and find opportunities to develop as a leader. I always look forward to our sessions, and come away from them with new approaches I can apply in my day-to-day. I highly recommend DB Coaching & Development!

Where do my values come from?

My core values are Trust, Fairness & Kindness. I trust first, occasionally at my cost but this remains a conscious choice. Fairness comes from having a mother who made everything fair and equitable between me and my brother, no matter what.  And I choose kindness as you never know what’s happening in someone else’s life.

My leadership Ethos.

In addition to coaching and mentoring through leadership I’ve developed a 'Leadership Ethos' based upon four pillars of Purpose & Values, Communication, Celebration and Partnership. I readily share this model with leaders and teams as part of my coaching work.
