I initially did a degree in counselling and psychotherapy, during which time I was required to carry out personal psychotherapy for myself. This helped me to uncover and challenge my patterns and beliefs that I'd acquired through life, that were not necessarily of benefit to me anymore. I was able to update them so that they were in line with my values and desires. I then completed a Masters degree in psychological trauma studies, where I gained a greater understanding of how people who suffer trauma, each deal with it so differently, and what tools can help to work through trauma. I also learnt how to help people build resilience to enable them to deal with the bad stuff when it comes along, allowing them to bounce back better and stronger than before. I then completed an ILM Level 5 course in coaching. Coaching allows me to use all the skills I have acquired over the years, to tailor the right tools to the needs of each individual client, rather than trying to make just a few tools fit every client.
Within the emergency services I have had first-hand experience of the psychological impact that helping others in traumatic situations can have on myself and colleagues. I specialise in coaching with emergency service personnel, helping people to deal with the pressures of this industry, whether as a frontline emergency responder or a manger dealing with the complexities of the job, whilst trying to find a balance with their personal life. I understand how 'helping others' can have an impact on an individual's own mental health and well-being. Through coaching, I help people to learn various techniques (i.e. mindfulness, traumatic incident reduction, emotional freedom technique) to build resilience in their work. I am passionate about helping people to find a way of caring for and attending to their own needs and desires, whilst also helping others in need, to enable them to not just 'get by', but to thrive in their work.
I also coach people who feel that their lives are becoming overwhelmingly cluttered - either physically, emotionally, or both. They may have the desire to deal with this, but no idea where to start. I help them to explore the underlying beliefs and experiences that have led to this behaviour and guide them through a programme to deal with the emotional elements and the physical accumulation of clutter, leading to a calmer state of mind and a calmer environment to live in.
WHAT TO EXPECT
As a client, your situation will be unique, but if you are considering coaching, you will probably be experiencing some form of ‘block’ in your life. I can use a variety of techniques to help you view this block from a new perspective and give you options for working through it and moving forward with a greater sense of purpose in life.
Some areas I can help with:
- Reduce stress and anxiety
- Increase confidence
- Deal with trauma
- Personal development
- Reducing clutter
I believe that everyone is capable of and entitled to live a well-balanced, healthy and fulfilling life. I have the necessary experience and knowledge in a wide variety of areas to be able to tailor the coaching to an individual’s unique needs and desires, to empower them to move through their issues and flourish in life.
“Claire helped me find my own answers to my predicaments; in fact they were already in me, I was just too blinkered to see them. She gave me the realisation that I could try out my ideas from different perspectives without feeling apprehensive about possible failure. I now know to try things out with more confidence and choose to learn from my mistakes rather than being too frightened to make them – my confidence is improving all the time.”
''I've never really had much luck talking to people about my problems and upsets, but with Claire it's been easy. If I was upset I could be upset and pour out my problems without feeling judged. If I was in a productive mood I got the support to brain storm and be guided to putting some plans in place. I've been taught various methods of mindfulness/relaxation techniques including tapping, which have helped when I've really needed them. I think a lot of the time we want a quick fix, the next craze to make us all happy. But Claire is able to help you realise that the rough will come with the smooth, but it's how we let our thoughts take over that's important. Whenever I'm having a tough time, I will think back to our conversations and they will always help improve my mood. I highly recommend Claire if you need a bit of guidance in life!''
