I am an experienced personal coach and EMDR practitioner, offering effective, professional support in central London and St Albans.
Deciding to explore your situation in life can provoke strong anxieties, but I have nothing but respect for the decision to talk, and for the confidences that clients share with me.
As a personal coach, I combine counselling and life coaching skills. The most important thing for me is building relationships based on an authentic connection. When this happens, I have found that great changes really are possible. My job is to facilitate this so that you can develop in the ways you want to. I support your process by listening hard, being honest, trustworthy, warm, and valuing your individuality while understanding your needs and helping you to achieve your aspirations.
People come to me for all sorts of reasons, and also without a clear goal - both are valid situations for trying coaching. Often people come because they are struggling, or have a feeling that they want to better their life but are not sure how. Alternatively, sometimes people want to mark an achievement, and to build on recent success to maximise its impact. Exploring your life when you are not in a crisis can be a very fulfilling experience.
I also work as an EMDR practitioner.
EMDR is different from talking therapies, mindfulness etc, as it is a mind-body treatment, and its focus is on the body’s own healing mechanism, the process, rather than the content of the traumatic memory. It is client-led, and the therapist’s interventions are minimal. You, as the client, are in control at all times, and you are fully conscious, rather than being in a hypnotised or trance state.
EMDR stands for Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing. It is well researched and established as one of the most successful methods of treating trauma.
What is trauma? In essence, it is any negative arousal that persists in its activation of the person long after the event, because the usual processing of experiences has not occurred.
EMDR can resolve post-traumatic symptoms quickly and with minimal distress to you. Its effects last over time, and can eliminate feelings of helplessness, pain, and negative habits and beliefs.
EMDR is best done in the context of a therapeutic relationship, where trust and safety have been established first.
Training, qualifications & experience
I have qualified with a Diploma in Transformational Coaching, at Animas (London).
I trained for 3 years on a BA in Person-Centred Counselling at the Metanoia Institute in London, while gaining over 200 hours of experience with clients. This was an amazing learning experience, but in order to be confident that I can offer clients the best support possible, I wanted a more integrative approach. Therefore I chose to finish my qualification as a personal coach, which means I combine counselling and life coaching skills. While currently finishing my training as a counsellor, I am committed to the Person-Centred approach, its principles and values.
In 2018, I will qualify as an EMDR practitioner, and attend training in treating trauma with Babette Rothschild. This supports my intention to specialise in treating adults with experience of family estrangement, childhood trauma and chronic illness.
I abide by the International Coaching Federation (ICF) Code of Ethics, and have regular supervision. All personal information is confidential, with very rare legal exceptions, which are spelled out in our initial contract.
