Coaching offers a positive and effective process to enable anyone who is ready for change, to do so in a manner that is comfortable and inclusive.
My career has spanned over 25 years and in that time, I have acquired and developed a variety of skills and experience and I believe this has given me a unique insight into just what can be achieved through this amazing process.

How you felt before participating in coaching
Before I started participating in coaching I was easily overwhelmed, I focused on the negative and let my brain run away with me, catastrophising the future and leaving me stuck in a place of frustration and reacting with tears because I just didn’t know what else to do.
I would spend lots of time dwelling on the past and going over things I had done, or not done, making myself feel small and miserable. I left job after job because I did not know what I was looking for, which added to my lack of self-confidence and I struggled to find and stay in supportive and fulfilling relationships.
I found myself following similar patterns of unhelpful behaviours that I just didn’t seem to have the power to get out of, and in many cases I didn’t even realise I was doing this – it just felt like the norm.
How differently you feel now you have been coached
I have now had 5 or 6 sessions with Abbie, including the initial meeting where we met to work out what I wanted to achieve from my time being coached. Within moments of meeting Abbie, I knew that I had to sign up to be coached. I explained the problems that I have been having in various parts of my life and Abbie, for the first time, has shown me that I can be in control of these.
Each time I work with Abbie, I feel like little pieces begin to fall into place. She has a fantastic way of throwing light onto the worries and behaviours that I have and showing me ways to begin to take back control. We work to evaluate where I am and where I want to get to, putting me in the driver’s seat of my own life, which is something that I have never felt possible.
After a session with Abbie I come away feeling positive and empowered to make small changes and to begin to reflect on my actions and behaviours without guilt and sadness but with the aim to improve and to be more aware of myself, in order that I can live a fulfilling and happy life, on my terms.
Using worksheets during the process has helped focus my attentions back to the underlying issues I struggle with, as I can now see how they have such an impact on my family, work, relationships and social life. By putting myself first, and building my confidence to see that I have it within me to make these changes for myself, I have been able to begin to make the right choices for myself, which in turn only benefits those around me in a positive way.
What you particularly enjoyed from the sessions
I have particularly enjoyed the way in which the sessions allow me to work on something that has been an issue for me over the past fortnight, but then this leads to discussions on many different areas that I had not thought about before, or for a long time. It has really helped me feel open to talk to Abbie about issues of confidence and unhelpful behaviours, as I never felt judged.
Every time I come away from a session with Abbie I am absolutely beaming. Sometimes it can be hard work as emotions and regrets do come to the surface, but I feel alive and empowered to make the steps I need to, to find a sense of calm, clarity and acceptance of who I am. I am also armed with a wealth of ideas to reflect on, as well as positive actions to aim for, which although might be hard and difficult, will all add to my confidence and happiness in the long run.
What personal changes you plan to make as a result of coaching
From the first day I met Abbie she asked me to write down 5 positive things that have happened each day. Now, I have over 3 months’ worth of positive things to look through and to reflect on. If I have a difficult day, I am still searching for those brighter moments, and it is beginning to train my brain to start to look for the positives more and more.
I am starting to reflect on my actions and to see why I might be doing something and to take a step back to see if it is going to benefit me, and whether it is a behaviour that fits with my values. Rather than berating myself like I would have done in the past, I am able to reflect more kindly and to then take a positive step forward to tell myself that next time I could react in a different way to get a more positive outcome.
After years’ of ingrained negativity, worry and frustration, I know that it will take a lot of work to be as positive as Abbie is! But these little steps and ideas that she has given me feel like I am finally taking the director’s seat of my own life for myself, and taking responsibility for my own happiness.
