Using Intuition For Decision Making - Top Tip

Wouldn’t it be nice if you always had the answers to ALL of your questions? How relaxed would you feel if you knew that no matter what life threw at you, you always made the right decisions, and did so quickly?
Almost daily we are faced with decisions. It is the making of these decisions that we can find difficult, anxiety-provoking and stressful. We have to live with our decisions which makes it all the more wonderful when you know that any decision you make, is the right one!

Having recently gone through a tough decision making moment, I was reminded of how much our body’s physiology can shout the right answer to us and flash warning lights in our mind, whether we ‘hear’ or ‘see’ them is another matter.
Let’s assume you have three options to choose from, and one of those options is the right decision for you. Two of those options, when mentally considered, will make you feel tense, whilst the correct one will make you feel relaxed. The decision that makes you feel relaxed is usually the one to go for. Your body will usually feel tense or relaxed because it is responding to information that you have stored in your body and/or are accessing from the environment around you. In the article outlined above I cite two main pieces of research that support this.
Now, what you might do is make a decision and then wonder why something about it is troubling you, and has perhaps done so for a while. Sometimes we make the wrong decision and we get a feeling within our body that tells us, “Something’s not right about that decision”. In the same way that we need to pay attention to these sensations within our body when making a decision, we also need to pay attention to them if they are trying to send us a post-decision warning.
If you know something doesn’t feel right about a decision you’ve already made, then there is a reason for it. Speak to someone you trust to be level-headed and ask them to help you explore why you don’t feel the decision you made was the right one.
As you pay attention to your body’s signals and begin to explore the reasons behind them, you’ll start to unearth information you have embedded under thoughts and beliefs such as “I feel I should”, “I feel trapped”, “I think I have to”, and so on. You may not have expected to be trapped or indeed be trapped, but it may be the very thinking that led you to make that wrong decision.
Once you’ve understood why you went for the seemingly wrong decision, you can then begin the decision making process all over again. This time around, pay attention to your body’s tell-tale signs as to which option is right for you. The area around the heart, gut, shoulders, neck, back and scalp are key. Focus your attention on these areas to determine if the decision you’re considering makes you feel tense or relaxed and whether consciously or not, you are aware of the reason for your body’s signals.
