The surprising reason you feel exhausted all the time

Every day at around 3pm, I was exhausted. I felt heavy and lethargic, and the most mundane tasks seemed nearly impossible. Washing a pot or reading a book felt like a monumental task. This went on for years. I’d visited my GP, gotten all kinds of tests, and they showed I was in perfect health, but I kept feeling tired, and no amount of sleep seemed to fix it. I tried increasing my caffeine intake, and instead of having more energy I experienced heart palpitations. I tried a naturopath, an organic diet, and even acupuncture. At some point, I gave up and resigned myself to do “what I could” and just get by.

An expected turn of events

As I was working through my life challenges, I finally got the courage to leave the job I was in. It was an “ok” job, or so I thought. It paid “ok”, the people were “ok”, the work was “ok”. A couple of weeks after, I moved into a different job and started working on building my business. My new job turned out to be really amazing, where people appreciated my contribution, the company values were aligned with my own, and I was really enjoying being there.

I didn’t pay much attention to it at first, but then I started noticing that when 3pm came around I was not tired anymore, in fact, I wanted to do more things. I was able to go out with my friends, go to more movies with my husband, and play with my niece. I was sleeping better than I ever had, and the best part was my mood – I was not frustrated, scared or hopeless anymore. I knew there was nothing physically wrong with me, and then it dawned on me that the reason I was exhausted before was stress. Not the stress caused by working 12 hour days, but from being in an environment that literally sucked the life out of me.

Following your purpose fuels you

It turns out that when you are happy and excited about the work you do, your energy levels reflect it. If you are passionate about what you do and your life, then you get more energy to enjoy it. Even if there are challenges, you can move through them easier with more grace and poise. When you are living your purpose, you feel fulfilled and abundance comes into your life; inspiration, relationships, advice, help, and money start coming to you as if you had opened a faucet and goodness keeps flowing.

If you are feeling exhausted and you explored all the possible physical causes with a doctor, it may be worth taking a look at your stress levels. Try to be as honest as possible with yourself or when talking it over with your coach.
