How you can come up with alternative career ideas by reviewing your aspirations
When you are feeling dissatisfied or demotivated in your job or career, it can be extremely useful to review your aspirations.
As children we all have aspirations, but as we enter adulthood, many, if not all of our aspirations can be forgotten as our focus becomes directed towards climbing the corporate ladder and being "successful".
Once on the corporate ladder, it is easy to get caught up in other people's idea of success and often you can end up chasing a dream that doesn't belong to you.
When you no longer find your career fulfilling, revisiting long forgotten aspirations can motivate you to make changes to your current circumstances.
Often, people who become disillusioned in their career become uninspired and struggle to come up with alternative career ideas.
Taking the time to remember the aspirations you had before entering the world of work, can be a good place to start for new career ideas.
Answering the following questions can help you to start identifying your aspirations:
- What are you yearning to do, see or be?
- If you could achieve or accomplish anything in your life, what would it be?
- What interests did you have years ago that you could and would like to revive today?
Once you have a list, use it as starting point for alternative career options to explore.
