Have you got the ingredients for a life you love?
Want to live a life you love? Read on to find out what kind of ingredients you will need for it - and start adding the ones you are missing!
What they said
About a year ago, I conducted an informal poll with people interested in self-development and living a life they love. I wanted to know what the single most important ingredient of such a life was to them - regardless of whether they had it in their lives or not. In other words, what do you have to have in your life, so you can truly say that you love it?
I got a very wide variety of responses. This is perhaps unsurprising - after all, the definition of a life YOU love is as unique and individual as YOU are.
But there were some ingredients that got mentioned more than others - see the top five most mentioned ones below:
Which of these are important ingredients for a life YOU love? So important that, on a scale from one to 10 (where one is totally unimportant and 10 is totally important), you would rate them eight and above? Write these onto a piece of paper.
A wide variety of other ingredients also got mentioned, though less frequently.
Which ones ring true for you? As before, pick the ones that are most important for you, at least an eight on your scale of importance, and put them on your list.
What I said
The results of my little poll got me thinking, and I came up with my own view of the top five ingredients of a life I love - and then with another five. I'll list them for you below.
My own top 10 ingredients of a life I love are:
- Knowing and loving yourself.
- Freedom to express yourself.
- Caring for yourself and others.
Which of these make it to YOUR list of important ingredients of a life YOU love (eight or higher on your one - 10 scale)? Put them on it!
Now - what do YOU say?
Hopefully, by now, you'll have a nice list of ingredients to a life you love that are important to you.
Have a read through. Which further important ingredients are missing from your list? Add them on.
How many ingredients have you got on your list? Pick out the 10 that are most important to you, and write them on a new sheet of paper. (If you have less than 10, just work with those.) You might even be able to put your ten in order of priority.
Now, look at your top 10 ingredients for a life you love. Which ones would you say are present in your current life? Put a tick mark next to them.
Of the ones that are not ticked, and hence are not (yet) present in your life. Which one would make the greatest difference to have, so you'll love your life more?
Write it out again on the back of your sheet of paper. And underneath it, list three things you can do this week that will help you get a bit more of that ingredient into your life.
Good luck - let me know how you get on!
