Change your life today with effective outcomes

It is human nature to sway towards to the negative rather than the positive.

It takes more muscles in our face to smile than it does to frown. Nature has literally made it easier for us to be negative!

This side of human nature is why most people are what we call ‘away-from’ – rather than ‘towards’ and this is a problem. I’ll give you an example:

Ask someone what they want:

Person one‘What do you want?’
Person two‘Well, I don’t want to be overweight anymore and I hate my job’.
Person one‘I didn’t ask you what didn't want; I asked you what you did want’.

In this example person two is ‘away-from’ and this is very common so if you feel as though you would also have responded this way, then don’t fear.

When working with a coach you will get every opportunity to explain what areas of your life you want improving and why – and your coach will listen to you in depth and develop sessions based on your concerns.

However, when it comes to ‘creating effective outcomes’, (which is one of the most important parts of your whole coaching experience), we do not want to talk about what you don't want – we want to talk about what you do want.

And this is because a coach is going to help you get there! They are going to help you get there by being specific and creating a plan.

With the best life coaches, this goes way beyond setting goals. Goals are too general – we want to be as specific as possible – and outcomes are as specific as they get.

Once we have uncovered what it is you do want – we then want to create a SMART(E) specific outcome. Is it:

S – Specific
M – Measurable
A – Achievable
R – Realistic
T – Timed (give this outcome an exact date. Eg: 2nd December 2017)

E – Emotion

I’ve added the E for emotion onto the end of this common SMART reference because it is of the utmost importance that you think deeply about how it will feel when you achieve your outcome. We are emotional beings and feelings/emotions are huge motivational drivers.

Once you have discarded what it is you don’t want and discovered what it is you do want – then work backwards from here. Use the full force of your creative imagination (more specifically the right-side of your brain as this is where your creativity lies) and imagine that you have achieved that specific outcome on that specific date. Once you have this vivid, clear and emotional imagination – start to work backwards.

Think about all of the things that the successful version of yourself had to do to get from where you are now to where you want to be. Notice every task, notice every step. Now most importantly – notice what is step one?

You now have a step by step plan of action to get exactly what you want in life and ever better than that, you have step one – the most important step. There are two major reasons why you want to work with a coach throughout this process.

1) You will discover the full force of this process and therefore have an excellently developed outcome.
2) You will discover that you have an emotional attachment to some of the steps on this list (fear, anxiety, worry, anger) work with a coach to understand them and overcome them successfully.

I know that asking for help is not an easy thing to do – you are an incredible person for making it this far and reading the full depth of this article.

You obviously want a change in your life and you deserve one. Contact a coach today to fully discover what you want out of life and how you are going to get it.
