“If only I had more time to think!”

“Can you give me some time to think about it”?

“Please, just let me think!”

“Can you just try to understand me for a moment?”

We instinctively know that having some time to think is important. And that means allowing our minds to imagine, meander and journey – not to jump straight from A and B. It involves working out how we feel about something and listening to ourselves because it's often the best way to find clarity and discover what we really, really want, and to make decisions we won’t regret.

We also know that it’s even better when we have someone with us, listening to us, encouraging and supporting us. Especially when we know they understand us. Simply feeling understood activates brain regions that are associated with reward and social connection, and so it makes us feel good, more confident, more attuned, and not feeling understood activates neural regions associated with negative affect, making us feel low, frustrated, rejected, even. In fact, feeling understood is essential to good mental health.

  • Feeling understood can build courage.
  • It can help people to make sense for themselves.
  • I can bring relief.
  • It can open a path for a deeper connection.
  • It can heal.

And it all starts with listening. With attention. And with time to think.

So if you would like to get better at understanding, at listening, at helping people think at their very best, come along to my next Time to Think course "The Thinking Partnership" in the beautiful Cotswolds for two-days in October this year, with a day online in November. You might be a coach, a parent, a line manager, a leader, a mentor or anything else - whatever your role, you will experience and gain something really inspiring and special on this journey!

You'll discover:

  • How the human mind works in waves and pauses as it imagines, creates, feels, weaves and resolves.
  • How to create the right conditions for people to think for themselves on a whole new level of independence, clarity, and empowerment.
  • The importance of feeling understood and what can happen when we don’t feel it.
  • How to add greater value through your attention than through your input when listening.
  • How to help people identify and break through their limiting assumptions.
  • How to apply your learning in numerous contexts, personally and professionally.

So this is an invitation to a journey, an exploration, a quest.

This is the inspirational Thinking Partnership course, where you’ll learn how to help people to think in ways they never imagined possible, take your listening skills to new heights, and explore the essential conditions for the most courageous, authentic thinking. And where you’ll begin to master placing Generative Attention at the heart of all your listening, so that people feel really understood.

There’s lots more to discover along the way – who knows what that will be – but it’s highly likely that on this course you’ll make significant breakthroughs in your capacity to listen deeply and to truly think for yourself.

The course includes:

  • Two in-person days in the beautiful Cotswolds in Moreton in Marsh, Gloucestershire (borders of GL56/CV36) 7/8 October, 9.30 am-4.30 pm.
  • One group day online on Zoom, a month later, 7 November, again from  9.30 am-4.30 pm.
  • Small group learning (up to 5) for maximum ease, safety and depth
