Somatic movement workshop
A morning of movement inspired by yoga, Pilates, and mindful movement practices to create a mind-body centred workshop that is healing and balancing.
Find peace, stillness and a sense of appreciation of your incredible mind and body. We do not push through discomfort or ignore cues to change position from our body. Instead, we learn to listen to the wisdom of our body, and trust its messages.
I hold my somatic movement group classes in the heart of Cambridgeshire, in a sweet little village called Willingham. Classes are held at The Octagon, a beautiful purpose-built building, shaped like an octagon, behind the ancient church in the centre of the village.
Places are limited to 10 so we create an intimate atmosphere.
My classes more or less follow a format of:
- Welcome and getting settled - find a spot to place your mat, sit in stillness and contemplation or chat with other participants while breathing in the sweet smell of essential oils related to that time of year.
- Centring - sitting or lying down, I invite you to connect with your body, mind and breath.
- Movement - I guide you through around 45 minutes of movement, designed to help us regulate our nervous system. We explore balancing, strength, vigour, calm, and restoration.
-
Vagus nerve stimulation - I offer a somatic exercise to help to stimulate the vagus nerve which is where much of our chronic stress is stored. A deep release to support our mind-body.
-
Affirmations and group sharing - I invite you to share your goals and affirmations and will facilitate a kind of group therapy session using principles of acceptance and commitment therapy. There is no need to share anything too personal or traumatic, you are in agency of what you choose to share.
-
Meditation and mindfulness - we end the class with a guided meditation to sounds.
-
Refresh and close - I open the doors to let a flow of air stir through us while we drink herbal tea. You have the option of walking barefoot outside if you wish.
My workshops follow the seasons. This means we’ll do quieter and more introspective sessions during the Winter months, and more vigorous work in the Spring when our life force is beginning to stir. I’ll look to do cooling work during the Summer, and restorative work during the Autumn.
All movements and meditations are invitational and you can opt out of or adapt any of the exercises that I offer.
