Ways to help people with ADHD feel and work better

If you encounter tasks that involve a number of steps, break the steps down into individual tasks. Try to write them down in sequence so it’s easy to follow.

2. Keep your brain tidy

If you are constantly getting distracted by thoughts when you are working, note them down on paper. Writing them down can remove them from your thoughts and enable you to get on with the task at hand.

3. Keep a to-do list in front of you

Print out a to-do list and keep it in front of you at all times. If you have the visual there it will help keep your focus to accomplish your goals.

4. Don’t throw away your to-do list until all is completed

If you throw it away at the end of the day, anything left on the list might get forgotten about. Keep the list until it’s finished to avoid this situation.

5. Choose specific places for your belongings

To stay organised, keep your important things (phone, wallet, keys etc.) in one place. This applies to both home and work.

6. Keep a planner with you everywhere you go

With a planner you can write down every meeting and appointment. If you use an app on your phone, try to transfer all details on to a physical calendar so you can see what you have on every day.

7. Isolate yourself when you need to focus

Isolation gives you peace and quiet that enables you to focus on your task at hand. Try to block out any distracting noises and if you constantly stare out of the window, shut the blinds for a while.
